Grand Hotel Duomo

Hotel, is fine is you want to spend an overnight in Pisa. Location is as close as you can get to the tower, 5 min walk. Bed’s were stiff, and we went in October so they had turned off the AC so with the windows open, it was a noisy night listening to the never ending scooters and cars on the street below. Still for one night, it was OK. Breakfast was good, had cheap internet and a friendly staff.

Sleep with the Leaning Tower in PIsa

A good solid 3-star at a great location close to the Tower and the Duomo, but a bit plain and otherwise forgettable.

Good Location but Hotel Needs a Makeover

Although the location right by the leaning tower was perfect he Grand Hotel Duomo itself wasn’t so grand. The paint was peeling in my room and I had no view at all. It needs a complete refurbishment but for a one night stay it was okay.

great location, okay hotel

Our room was nothing special (the shower didn’t work all that well and the room seemed pretty old). However, the location of this hotel can’t be beat as the leaning tower is visible from the hotel rooms and its completely beautiful.

Pleasantly surprised!

We had a comfortable and pleasant stay.We could see the tower of Pisa outside our hotel room. The continental breakfast was a vast array of fruits and carbs.

Perfect Location

This was a much nicer hotel than I had anticipated. I could literally look out of the window and see the Leaning Tower. Close to everything, and the service was great.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

If you want to visit Pisa for food and the Tower, this is your hotel. Also not far from airport or train station.

Very near tower

3 minute walk to the tower. My room does not look like ANY photos. No internet, very small room, but PISA takes only a day to see so a day is OK in this Hotel and do to the closeness of the tower, it is perfect.

Traveler's tip

PISA is by taxi. Taxi to and from the hotel is 20-25EUR per way.

Good location

Not much to this hotel, but it was quiet, clean, nice staff, and a good location. I recommend it.

dont even go there

shower head held together with masking tape, a/c not working/ noisy/ tourist infested area. convenient to leaning tower but far from train station-tuor busses and tour busses made us head the opposite direction-go to Lucca or Siena on the train

Traveler's tip on local attractions

go to Lucca and ride bikes or run on the wall around the city--shopping is good there--shopping in pisa good in the central area toward river

Would not go back

Close to main attractions, but the street is too busy to get a night’s sleep. Rooms look very old and don’t feel clean.

very close to everything

I think this hotel was much better than the reviews indicate. The room was fine--clean and comfortable--and the location is perfect for a quick walk to the Tower, Duomo, and Baptistery. One has a to go a bit further for the river, or to dig deeper in the non-touristy parts of Pisa, but otherwise the location is perfect. Breakfast was fine. Not sure why this place gets marginal reviews, unless some people are just so accustomed to very elegant accommodations.

Recommended

The Hotel Duomo is an excellent hotel, moderately priced, very well located, being about two blocks from the Leaning Tower, yet quiet. The staff was very accommodating. It is probably the best hotel in the vicinity of the Tower and Duomo.

Traveler's tip on dining

The hotel is very near an excellent, moderately priced restaurant, La Buca.

The Fomerly Grand Hotel Duomo

We stayed at this hotel in early June. The only things it really has going for it are price and location. The maintenance of the hotel is poor and the cleanliness of the bathroom left much to be desired. In particular, there was mildew in the shower in most all of the grout lines. There really isn’t any excuse for this at all. It is close (less than 100m) to the duomo but I’d stay someplace else if I returned.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Pisa is fairly small and all of it can be seen within 4-6 hours (3 is even enough). Plan a trip through and stay elsewhere for nicer hotels at better prices.

Grand Hotel; Wrong!

The hotel lobby was very nice and it was close to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. But, the rooms were not nice. The paint was peeling off the walls. The water stunk out of the faucet. The water pressure was terrible. I can’t believe it is considered a 4 Star Hotel. I would not go back.

Great location but....

The hotel has a great location. You can’t get a better view of the leaning tower. However, looks like renovataions were done only to the lobby. Beds are very hard and the bathroom was so so clean. I was only there for one night,so it wasn’t a big deal.

Traveler's tip on dining

There is also a great pizzaria just a few steps from the hotel (go across the street and down a block or so -- away from the tower). Best pizza I had in all of Italy!!
