Convenient Quito base
Hotel Eugenia is a clean, reasonably priced and well located hotel in downtown Quito. The rooms are adequate and clean. The main drawback we found was the lack of sound insulation between rooms, so we heard people coming in and out and doors closing hard at various hours of the night.

Eugenia does the job
A nice little hotel with a Victorian flair, the Eugenia squeezes a lot of charm into a little block of space. The gate is guarded so there were no issues showing up or leaving in the middle of darkness. Its within walking distance to Papa Johns and next door to Burger King, if youre wanting to play it safe on the food. From our room I could get wireless internet from the JWMarriott across the street, which we stayed at earlier in the week. For our short stay between two long days of flying, the Eugenia did the trick. My only real complaint was the small CRT tv that seemed to only change the channel when it wanted to.

Nice clean and cold
The hotel is very nice, clean, well appointed and the staff are very friendly. The food is good (free breakfast), many cable channels (several in English) and the location is okay. However, it was very cold at night. This may seem an odd comment from an Equatorial location, but trust me - it was everyones complaint over breakfast in the mornings. You cant beat the price, though, so my recommendation is for you to stay here but take some warm PJs.
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
Quito doesnt really have a lot to offer for sightseers. Dont plan on more than 2 full days in this town or youll be bored. A trip to Atavalo is worth it as there are two markets - one for food and another for crafts. Do as much of your outdoor walking/sightseeing in the morning as it tends to rain heavily in the afternoons.
