Best Western Stratford Inn

This Will Be My GoTo Hotel in the San Diego Area

About a 1/2 mile drive off I-5 to Del Mar, the Best Western Stratford Inn sits on a hillside. Very convenient. 1/4 Mile down the street is the beautiful Torry Pines Park and surfer beach. We opted for a Suite and it was nice to have the sofa to relax on after a long day. I enjoyed the fridge and we stocked it with water and soda for the entire stay. Our trip was to attend our son’s Wedding at the Hilton Resort in Mission Bay. My mother-in-law had a room at the Hilton that was 2 times our rate at the Best Western. I’d take the Best Western. Barbara at the Front Desk was amazing - helpful in so many ways !! The complementary Continental Breakfast was one of the best I’ve ever experienced. The wife and I have travelled cross-country by car 5 times so we’ve had the best and worst of the "promised" breakfast buffets and this was hands down one of the best. We enjoyed toasted bagels, danish, fresh orange and apple juice, cereal, and hard-boiled eggs every morning. The coffee of course was excellent and fresh always. I can’t wait to get back to San Diego and definitely will stay at the Stratford Inn again !!

Traveler's tip on shopping

At the I-5 exit there is a Von’s and a Jack-In-Box restaurant. Up Carmel Heights Road toward Carmel Heights is a huge shopping comples with lots of fast food, some sit-down restaurants, and a Ralph’s grocery. Check out the McDonalds in this complex. It was built as one of only two experimental units in the country. It’s like McDonalds chic - cloth tablecloths, regular menu and then another counter with Pannini, Gelato, etc. Gotta see it to believe it.

Great value for families

We vacationed with 3 adults and 3 kids in two rooms going to the beach, Sea World and met friends in San Diega and Del Mar. This hotel was in an excellent location near the beach, had large rooms with kitchenettes, covered parking, balconies or mini patios to sit out and enjoy the sun with mini-views of the sea, friendly service and was great value for the price we paid. The breakfast was generous and apprciated by the kids and early risers. The rooms had a problem with bathroom cleanliness that was rectified quickly when we called. It was in the process of remodeling, but the work was not intrusive. We would return.

Very nice for the price, would return

First room I was assigned to was on the first floor with a unit above. Very noisy from above. After first night switched to upper unit and it was very quiet. The staff was very accommodating.

Recommend Bully’s North in Del Mar for lunch and dinner. Excellent Prime Rib. And La Jolla shores for boogie boarding.
