Dissappointed
After reviewing the hotels website, I was very excited for my stay at The Blake. When we arrived, we felt very comfortable with the atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff. At a quick glance, this hotel seems fairly upscale and modern. However, when we got to our room, I was extremely dissappointed. The whole floor had a musty smell, while the electronics (except the telephone) all looked new, the overall room was out-dated. The bathroom floor had stained grout, the door had many noticable paint chips, the wallpaper was coming up in some places, the air conditioning unit was extremely "ghetto", and when we first turned the water on, it came out yellow. When I went to take a shower, the water was either too hot or too cold, and the light fixture in the bathroom was so cheaply installed that I could see the inside of the celing. We had to pay a fee to park overnight, which we didnt mind, but seemed a little rediculous... you dont even have to pay a parking fee when staying at the hilton. Also, the ice machines were all out of order except for one, once again, no big deal, just a little annoying. While the staff was very friendly, I would only recommend this hotel to someone who is looking for a cheap stay

The Blake Hotel-Charlotte, NC
Two night stay and no hot water on either morning. Had to take a cold shower. Temperature in the room was not controlable; room was too warm. Parking lot is too far away from the hotel lobby, making parking charges unwarranted. Shuttle service to the Charlotte Convention Center is one way only (I found this out after I was stranded and caught a cab back to the hotel), according to the hotel manager on duty. "We can take you there, but we dont pick up." But when I called for pickup, I was told TWICE that "the driver will be right there."

upgrades are great, but still need improvment
I got a hotel room for a friend who just got marries, for their wedding night. I went over before them and checked them in and wanted to leave flowers, candles, champagne, etc... Overall, the friendliness of the hotel staff and "look" of the hotel are both wonderful. With further inspection, the new sink, although beautiful, it stopped up, water wouldnt drain, there werent any ice buckets in any of the rooms we tried (but someone did bring one up for us, with ice) and with all of the upgrades that have been done, the phones in each room, looked like they should be from 1977 and were all falling apart. We tried several rooms and the hotel staff was very nice to let us do that, because we were looking for a room with a city view (which I had requested days prior, so they let us pick from 3 rooms that were ready (at 3:20pm a city facing view I had requested should have been ready) BUT all 3 rooms were side views of either another building or 277. I am not completely unhappy, just had expected more from a hotel that is obviously tring to make a better name and face for itself. My friends said they had a wonderful stay, but I know they would not have complained about anything since it was a gift.
Comment from the hotel's management
Posted: 23-Oct-09Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent visit to our hotel. We are glad to hear that your guests at our hotel were pleased with their stay as it was a wedding gift to them. We do apologize sincerely that your room was not as you expected and that not all rooms in the hotel face the beautiful skyline, although most of these requests are honored upon arrival. Thank you again for your feedback. It is pertinent to the continued success of our hotel. We hope to have you as our guest in the future.
