Would Stay Again

Room was basic, but clean and comfortable. They let us check-in early at 9am after our overnight flight for no additional charge. The location was convenient. It was a bit of a walk to the city center, but very manageable. The hotel was quiet and the staff was friendly. The breakfast was basic but adequate. The food was fresh. The staff was very helpful in booking tours and the buses showed up right on time. We were very pleased with our whole trip and want to go back!

If you have the time, go on the Golden Circle Tour. We used Iceland Excursions, but it seems all of the companies have one and stop at the same places. It takes a full day but it is well worth it for the sights and history. They packed a lot in a day and we got great pictures! Gulfoss and Geysir are incredible! Also, when in Reykjavik, don’t miss the $4 elevator ride up the steeple of Hallgrimskirkja (the big church downtown). The city from above is so colorful!!!

Highly recommend this hotel

We were fortunate enough to have a room on the front side of the hotel which had an amazing view of the bay and distant mountains which was absolutely amazing to see everyday. The staff at the hotel provided excellent customer service and was extremely helpful when we wanted to book a tour or had any questions. The room was clean and comfortable and the bathroom was nice as well. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Hotel Bjork

If you don’t mind karate and dance lessons, which take place right next door, or a brief walk to the downtown area then Hotel Bjork is the place to stay in Reykjavik. Great complimentary breakfast and super comfy beds!

Great place to stay

Front desk personnel were extremely helpful in booking excursions for us. They were very friendly and had no trouble speaking English. All of the transportation we used was right on time each day.

great location

in a quiet area of city 15-20 minute walk from city center, great swimming pool and mall. great service and helpful staff. i arrived early in morning and not only was able to check in but eat breakfast which was good.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

blue lagoon is great but expensive and tourist attraction. instead try the local swimming pools where people socialize and they also have steam rooms and hot pots of different temps that feel great.

Neighborhood was not very attractive.

Neighboring buildings were pretty run-down. Roof of building directly across the street ruined the view.

Hotel Bjork

I would highly recommend Hotel Bjork. The rooms are spacious and well kept. The staff was more than helpful with everything - permitting early check-in (6:30 a.m.), mapping out excursions, making suggestions for restaurants, arranging for car rentals, etc. The continental breakfast was basic, but good. We made sandwiches and grabbed some hard-boiled eggs at breakfast for lunch, which was great considering eating out can be quite costly in Iceland. The hotel is a short ten minute walk to the old city shopping area, with coffee shops and grocery stores along the way. It was very convenient. We traveled with our infant, and everyone was extremely family friendly. Hotel Bjork really did offer the best service and accommodations for the price. I would definitely stay here again on a return trip to Iceland.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Rather than taking the paid tours, rent a car with GPS. The car enables you to see so much more of Iceland, and some of the most spectacularly beautiful areas are a little off the beaten path.

Quiet location....walk to downtown.

Located in a quiet section of town...only a 15 min walk to downtown. Weekend nights can get noisy in the city so it’s a good place to stay to get some peace & quiet. Room was adequate, not fancy but was fine for my 4 day stay. Booked all my tours right at the front desk and buses picked me up at the Hotel. A lite breakfast buffet (bread, coffee, fruit, hard boiled eggs, butter, jelly)included each day until 10am. No problems here.

Nice place - good walk from town

500 meters from the shopping district is a little misleading, it’s a good 15 minute walk to the heart of town. But it was a nice walk home after dinner. The one night we didn’t feel like walking, cab fare was about $12. This hotel wasn’t perfect, but it was very nice in all basic respects. The breakfast buffet was more than adequate to get the day started, with good coffee, wonderful fresh baked breads, fruit, cheese, ham, cereals. The triple room was spacious by European standards. Internet service was reliable and fast. They let us check in at 9 AM, which was a blessing after our long overnight travel. The only problem we had was the same day laundry service took 3 days, but that was probably just a fluke.

Traveler's tip

The blackout curtains worked pretty well, but if going to Iceland in Spring or Summer, you should definitely consider taking a sleep mask.

The staff was very accommodating. They let us check in early, as our plane arrived early in the morning. The free breakfast was more than adequate. Very nice place.

Iceland...words don’t describe....

As far as hotels go, I’d say the service and friendliness of staff was some of the best I’ve ever had, and I travel A LOT...but it was without being constant in your face service too...booked all my tours and activities without a hesitation, and could recommend anywhere else I hadn’t thought of...food was reasonable, hotel was super quiet and clean...okay, it was a reasonable walk into the middle of town, but you can’t expect it to be quiet and in the middle of town??? Brilliant...recommend it to anyone.

Traveler's tip

Hire a car, and drive...you’ll see more, and more importantly of what you want...unless you haven’t driven in snow...maybe leave that to the professionals...

Functional and Clean Hotel

The hotel is slightly utilitarian, but all the facilities work, and the staff is extremely freindly. Highly recommend it if you don’t plan on spending much time in the room.

Simple, Clean and Quiet!!

Although this hotel is a short walk from the main shopping street in Reykjavik.....it may be worth it to sleep on Friday and Saturday nights!! Based on what I found out from other travelers who stayed closer to town...I fared better on the party nights than they did!! I slept soundly and in peace while they were constantly bothered by the noise of the partying people in town....so, food for thought!

Nice

Great place! I’d recommend a view room. Awesome breakfast. Great staff. Good location, as long as you are comfortable to walk a little to downtown.

Great location & price

This hotel is ideally located for folks who don’t mind walking a few blocks in either direction to get to all the cool things Reykjavik has to offer. It’s easy to walk in Reykjavik and because the hotel is not in the heart of downtown, it is quiet. The airport shuttle bus goes right to the hotel, so you don’t have to transfer or find a taxi from the central bus terminal. The hotel has an excellent restaurant attached to it with reasonable (for Iceland) prices. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Great Hotel

This is a three star hotel located about fifteen walking minutes from the main shopping area. The Hotel room is small but adequate for two people. The room was spotless. The staff are extremely friendly and most helpful arranging for tours and/or taxis and providing general direction to all points of interest. The restaurant attached to the hotel served a supurb breakfast (included) and were very good for the evening meal.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Use tour companies and take the bus tours. They are well worth the money and had excellent guides. On departure day take the Blue lagoon to Airport tour. You have three hours to enjoy the Blue lagoon before they drop you off at the airport.

Love that Reykjavik!

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Bjork. Staff extremely helpful and available 24/7. Loved that I was able to check-in shortly after my arrival at 9:00am. And they gave me breakfast while waiting for my room! Very conveniently located, in a quiet area. Short walk to city center and only a few blocks from bus terminal. Will definitely stay here again when I return to Reykjavik.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

If you’re taking a tour outside the city, go with "Iceland Horizon". Highly recommended by hotel. I took the famous Golden Circle tour. Excellent guide, small group (rather than a busload of people), and cheaper than other tour companies. There was a total of 6 in our group! This allowed for very personalized service.

Nice place for 2 nights

Our hotel clerk was extremely helpful and gracious in hooking up us with ice hiking tours, transportation, and sightseeing. Great value, and a nice easy walk to the town center. Will definitely return.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Try ice hiking or climbing. Blue Lagoon is OK, good for 3 hours max especially on the way back to the airport for a late flight; skip the water massage.

Not that good

I have lived in Iceland for 3 years and have traveled there throughout my life. I was disappointed with the room as several things didn’t work. With the cost of the room, it should have been better. I would also have preferred a room with a tub, as the shower was really small. Iceland has great water and it should be used by visitors. The breakfast was okay, and the staff was okay as well. When I asked a question, they made it seem as though as I was bothering them. The actual location of the hotel is by an industrial area, there are not great views either, and the parking was difficult if you hire a car. Please look at other hotels.

Traveler's tip

Iceland is very cold, dark, and dreary in winter, best to visit in Spring or Summer, be prepared for the cost!!!

I enjoyed my stay

Everything was fine except that the water for showering was not hot for three days. It was "warm" but no hot water. After I mentioned it a couple of times but it did not improve measurably but the 4th day it was just OK.
