Not very impressed
Typical smokey lobby. Room was fairly spacious, beds very hard, as in most of China. We were facing the street and it was very noisy. Location was good though, just a few blocks from the Bund and about a 15 minute walk from the Yu Gardens.

Lacking service and a room only designed for Chinese
Four main problems, all somewhat minor, but annoying: - the tile was cracked in the bathroom, with gaping holes in places - the TV completely lacked anything outside of Chinese channels - worthless - the front desk took 10 minutes to check my room for extra charges (mini-bar) even though there was never anything in the fridge (including any complementary water for teeth brushing!) - the front desk could not understand or arrange a ticket for an acrobat show, which was is pretty basic service - I had to go to another hotel On the upside, it was in a pretty good location...
Comment from the hotel's management
Posted: 21-Jul-08Awfully sorry to hear that you had not good experience in our hotel. Our hotel has a long history which was built in 1930s. Guests enjoy the excellent location and the taste of old Shanghai flavors. Some facilities are a little dated as time goes by. But we have been always focusing on providing excellent service. And now, we are renovating rooms to provide a better environment to our guests. Thanks for your precious opinion and we are trying to improve it. - we have English TV channels like CCTV 9 and Star Movie. - Acrobat show was full booked that day, it couldnt arrange for you. All above we are awfully sorry and we will strengthen training on service skill and Oral English for staff. Warmest welcome you visit Metropole again and enjoy our new environment and improved service!
