In the Heart of Everything

This hotel is only about 10 mins from airport (but much longer when new airport opens in 2010), in the heart of a vibrant area. In a short walk, you can go to the Market, where many merchants sell wool products from Otavalo, can eat at a sidewalk cafe, or one of many clubs. The hotel can also arrrange daily tours (I did the UNESCO site in Old Quito, as well as Cotopaxi climb). The service was very friendly and helpfull. They are remodelling the hotel, and I stayed in both the old and new sections, for my before/after trip to the Galapagos. They have a room where you can leave a bag if you are travelling to the Galapagos, free, while on your trip. The hotel restaurant was actually very good and reasonably priced.

When travelling in Quito, do not openly display expensive cameras, or leave anything in a public venue that could be grabbed by a running passerby. Take a small duffel bag to take home all of your purchases, as the wool items are bulky. They sell beatiful table clothes, so know the size of your table!!!

Good Hotel in Quito

This is a very good hotel, and if you book well in advance, it can be quite inexpensive -- as long as you book through a site like expedia. The hotel’s website and front desk prices are much more expensive. Beware the neighborhood at night, where your camera might be stolen -- but this is true of many neighborhoods.

Lovely

The Mercure was lovely. The staff was very helpful and spoke English beautifully. When I couldn’t get the wifi to work in the room, they actually sent someone up to the room to fix it. Both breakfast and dinner were scrumptious.

Great hotel in an excellent location!

The Hotel shows a sign that signals that it is a 5 stars hotels, but I think 4 would be more appropriate. Nevertheless, the service was excellent and it is located near a nice place to find restaurants and pubs. Also, it is close to the center of the city, which facilitates travel. We paid a very discounted price thanks to Expedia.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Foch Plaza is located at 5 blocks from the hotel, and there you can find restaurants and pubs. However, I read that crime was high and the area was dangerous. It did not seem to me that much dangerous, but better be careful.

Very Impressed with this hotel

This experience was better than I expected. The service was perfect and if I ever go back to Quito, I think this hotel would be my first choice.
