Great location for travelers with luggage

The hotel was clean, good service, and ok breakfast, but the best part was the location, just a block or two from the train station. Since there are no cars on the island and the water buses are expensive, it was great to be so close to the station.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

The water buses are expensive, so walking is your best bet from this hotel to the attractions in Venice: just be sure to give yourself enough time to get places, as it is easy to get lost in the narrow streets.

Great location

The hotel was only a 1-2 min walk from the train station. Great to be so close, since Venice is so crowded and a maze to walk in. It was across the street from a great bakery and a glass store with the best prices in Venice. The room could have used a carpet, but for the price and location it was great. Fantastic breakfast too and you could leave your luggage downstairs before leaving town. We got into our room at 1130 am, which was great.

Traveler's tip on shopping

We found that prices were outrageous on Murano Island for glass. The store across the street from the hotel and to the right of the bakery had the best prices for glass items.

I do NOT recommend this hotel strongly

No bathroom,No toilet,No air conditioning in the room. We got a cold during stay.. Service is terrible.... This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in my life. Cheap and good location, but that’s all. If you want to spend your comfortable time in Venice, I do not recommend this hotel.

Short walk from Train Station

We stayed at the hotel Thanksgiving Day 2007, and I would recommend this hotel if you’re just looking for a place to sleep. The pictures on the website do not accurately portray the hotel as it actually looks. These photos must have been taken 10 years ago when the place was new and clean. There was junk all over the lobby and in every corner and hallway. The rooms we stayed in were small (that is what I had expected), very clean, and comfortable. We stayed on the 2nd floor which was good because there was no elevator and the breakfast roomw as also located on the 2nd floor. All in all the location was great, right in the middle of the shops and grand canal and eating places and closer than I had imagined to the train station. The breakfast was nice and the attendant helping with the coffee and eggs was really friendly. The only negative thing we encountered was the head matron at the front desk who admonished us for checking out 20 minutes late....she was kind of mean

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

We took the No. 1 water bus to St. Marks Square and made many stops along the grand canal. We sat on the outside and had a great view of all of the beautiful buildings along the way. This is a less expensive way of touring the canal. I loved Venice and hope to return next year.

Venice’s gateway

The best part of the hotel was the proximity to railway and bus station. It was near the main road and bridge to cross over to start touring Venice. We saw lots of people hauling their luggage around Venice, and felt like it was such a waste of energy. There were lots of churches, shops and restaurants to visit, and to use up time having to get to a hotel closer to San Marcus square was not for us. This hotel looked rustic on the out side, but quite modern in the inside, with lovely breakfast. We stayed only one night, since we were going on a cruise, so this was a perfect location to start sightseeing, then the next day in late afternoon, go to the cruise ship(only 15 min walk or free shuttle from train station). This hotel was classified as a 2 star, but I would consider it a 3 star.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Close to train station, which is also close to cruise ship piers, so it makes for a nice hotel to start your trip and enjoy Venice.

Good hotel for the money

My daughter and I stayed at the Zecchini for 2 nights in August and were very pleased with the location. Our room was very small and we chose to have a shared bath which worked out fine even though it was up 1 floor. We never waited to use it or to shower. The hotel staff were helpful and usually friendly. The breakfast was good and you could order eggs although you had to read that on a sign. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again.

So close to the train station!

The hotel is about a 2 min walk from the train station. The area is very touristy, but all of Venice is. It’s not close to St. Marc’s square, but there is a stop for the public transportation boats very close. No elevator, but you only have to take your luggage up once. Breakfast was decent, but filled up quickly.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Check out the Ghost tour, fun to find all the nooks and cranies in Venice.

Great hotel

Zecchini Hotel is not fancy, but it’s comfortable and clean and very well located. The room was airy and bright, the bathroom was clean, and the staff was helpful and spoke English. It is located close to the train station which is very helpful when carrying heavy bags. I would definitely recommend it. It’s a very good value.

cramped but inexpensive, near train station

Our room was little bigger than a closet - the good things about it were the lovely handblown glass chandelier, the large window overlooking the street, the price and the promimity to the train station/water taxi/vaporetto, etc. If you are looking for luxury, this is not it. No bathroom, even. Had to use the shared bathroom next floor up..also the size of a closet and smelled a bit like sewer. Could not bring myself to shower in it. Given that it was one of the last hotel rooms available in Venice, we were grateful to get it, but it fell short of ideal. The staff was friendly and let us leave our luggage beyond checkout time so we could do some more sightseeing.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The Roma restaurant about 100 meters away on the Canal was a lovely place to eat lunch, great view, but not inexpensive. Pizza and pasta lunch with drinks for two was about $60 but it was worth it for the ambiance alone.

Easy to find

Arriving in Venice for the first time can be overwhelming, especially with luggage in tow and trying to fiqure out the vaporetto schedule. The Zecchini was easy to find and was a great launching point for seeing the city as well as for taking day trips by train. The rooms were small, but clean. The shared bathroom was never busy and always very clean. Breakfast was pleasant, just enough to get one going in the morning. I would recommend this hotel to someone on a budget; it is not luxurious, but I had no complaints.
