better than we thought!
We knew the Danieli had a lot to live up to so oddly we were prepared to be disappointed. Check in was longer than expected but we were upgraded to a magical room with our own balcony on a canal always full of gondolas. the room was decorated like a jewel box. the concierge and bell boys were very helpful. we were treated like princesses in the lobby atrium and bar. we will pick this hotel again. it seemed more fun than the Gritti Palace where we had just stayed for four nights. worth the splurge!
Traveler's tip on dining
trattoria rivetta is a small, loud, fun restaurant on the canal behind the danieli. ask for Sergio to wait on you and try the monkfish, vegetable antipasto, tiramasu, and of course, the grappa!

fabulous building, terrible, unwelcomng service
The lobby of the Danieli is spectacular. After having been there for drinks and meals many times, my husband and I were thrilled to be staying in the hotel for three nights. We were absolutely shocked by the indifferent service we received from all staff members during our stay. From check-in, through check-out, not one smile or kind word. We had a cocktail in the bar each night before dinner, had the same waiter, I speak Italian, and he never showed any sign of recognition or even a pleasantry. The concierges were efficient but never particularly courteous. It was very sad! These people dont seem to undersand that they should be working for tips in a 5-star hotel. The hotel needs a total staff overhaul, or service incentive program.

Very Romantic. Right next to Piazza San Marcos
Everything at the hotel was great. The only thing that I did not like was a Taxi provided by the hotel that was free that took me to Murano. What they do not tell you is that this taxi only takes you to a specific shop where you feel very pressured to buy. The restaurant was incredible on the roof.

Legendary Hotel in need for some change
This is THE hotel in Venice by reputation and location. Great overall building structure. Rooms we saw are very dated, marginally clean, very outdated unattractive seventees appliances. Staff is very friendly and helpful, terrace restaurant offers best breakfast buffet in town, dinner however suffers from unimaginative chef and is way overpriced for the product. All-in all mixed experience.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Guggenheim is one of the finest art galleries - if not the finest art gallery - in the world. Strongly recommend spending more time in dorsouro - far more refined restraurants and no tourist hordes.
