Very nice staff

I was only at this hotel one evening and checked in very late. The night manager greeted me warmly and upgraded my single room to a suite for no additional fee and they all treated me like a queen. The accommodations were fairly good, but I highly recommend this hotel just for the staff and the service.

Well located modern and clean hotel with helpful staff

The Alexandros, located off a busy boulevard between 2 metro stops (Megaro Musikis and Ampelokipi). The entrance is actually behind a small Orthodox Greek church which has a circular drive wrapped around it. No views from the hotel. There are plenty of places to eat nearby (within 5 to 10 minutes walk). You have a choice of Greek fast-food, like Everest, which serves take-out or stand-up coffees and cheese/spinach pies, or small sit-down café-restaurants with typical Greek salads and not-so-light main courses. 10 minute walk to the north takes you to Alexandras Street with both American and Greek food, from real restaurants to pizza places. While there are plenty of short-term travelers and groups who lodge there, we were treated warmly by the staff, who were quite helpful with everything from sight-seeing information to how to use the metro, translating Greek, or calling and briefing a taxi. The quality of the rooms varied and we were more pleased with the ones on the backside of the hotel. The breakfast was included with the room and was just varied enough to keep us interested the whole month. The hotel’s restaurant was adequate and beat many other local prices, but recommended only if you are too tired to go out. Use of the parking garage is free for guests. More interestingly, your friends and guests may park their cars in front of the hotel as you go out, as long as you leave the keys at the front desk.

Traveler's tip

September is an ideal month to visit - more comfortable than the summer for walking around, very little rain and fewer tourists. A new café, Palacio, opened on the corner to the right as you leave the hotel. Very good coffees and lunch menus. Around the corner at Mavili Square are several café bars and two restaurants, of ordinary quality, although with limited selections. Try your morning cappuccino (Euro 2.5) from Apostolidis in the tiny "Loras" café.

Great Hotel with Great Breakfast but 500 meters away from metro

Great Hotel on busy street of Megali Sofias, with great breakfast and helpful receptionists, but down part was 500 meters away from metro, not close to Plaka, kinda far from Acropolis and the internet was not free .

Traveler's tip for business travelers

it is a great hotel for business travelers not for people like me that want to to be close to Plaka and Acropolis , unless you want to spent some money on taxi, or kill your time in Metro stations.

Nice hotel, will stay there again

My husband and I with our 2 children (4,11) stayed in this hotel for total of 3 nights while we visited Athens. The hotel is very nice and clean. Staffs are helpful. Breakfast is one of the best in EU. It is about 3 min walk from US Embassy. 5 min walk from the subway. There are 2 little markets about 3-5 min walk. We got fresh fruits from there.

Bring your stroller. The 5-7 min walk is no joke in the summer.

Great hotel that wont break the bank

The complimentary breakfast is not to be missed! I have never seen a European breakfast so large! We sat for an hour eating! The room is decent, bathroom large for European standards, and only a 4 block walk to the metro. The walk is safe and you will pass the American Embassy & their large concert hall. Booked the room with the airfare for a good deal and don’t know the average per night rate, but it’s a great location!

Okay

Hotel staff was friendly. Directions to locations were not the best; most of the time I had to ask directions on the street. Afterwards found out the busline would take me to different locations; even back & for to the airport. No service to & from airport. When taking tours had to go to another hotel to get with touring party. Breakfast was good, friendly staff. If just going to Athens to do nothing great place. Otherwise, would not suggest staying here. Taxi charges were outrageous.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Tours were excellent. Food, staff, tour guide were very knowledgable. Dining and night life was enjoyable.

Definitely will return!!

The staff is helpful; full hot breakfast was included, fresh fruits and fresh oj, etc. The room was comfortable but not 4 star...more like 3. A/C needs to be cooler...carpet worn, room was very small, elevator was extremely small. Great location and hotel is about a few blocks away from the American Embassy and to 2 Metro stations; also, the hotel in a very quiet street and ok area. Very easy to get to the airport from there by bus, Express 95. A good value hotel. We will definitely return

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

buy a transportation pass so that you can travel everywhere by Metro or bus. Make sure you convert your money at the airport.... check out all the shops between Montistriki and Santagnma.

Great hotel

Alexandros was a great hotel it was close enough to all the places that you wanted to see. The complimentary breakfast was great. The staff were very helpful when we had questions and wanted to send post cards. I would recommend this hotel to others and i will hopefully go back in the next 5 years.

Not impressed

The buffet was very nice, the room OK, the service mediocre at best: A broken fridge wasn’t repaired in two days, neither was the internet connection in the ’business center’. The management didn’t seem to take either problem seriously.

Excellent hotel! We are an American family of 5 with pre-teen’s and I was concerned for my children’s safety when booking. When we arrived, we immediately felt good about this choice and our impression improved as we became more familiar with the hotel. We were in 2 adjacent junior suites and we stayed 2 nights. The staff were awesome...especially Nikos at the front desk who was extremely helpful in arranging our tours, rental car, etc. The rooms were very clean and properly appointed. The included breakfast buffet each morning was great. The area is definately upscale and gave us a comfortable felling. The hotel is a short taxi ride or metro ride from the city center. The tour bus picked us up at the hotel. Only downside is no pool (we were there to tour so it did not affect us). If I go back to Athens for any reason, I will stay here again.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

If you are American, you should make time to visit the US Embassy. It is only 1 block from the hotel.

Great Value

The staff is helpful. The included breakfast is great with fresh squeezed orange juice, etc. The room was comfortable but the A/C needs to be cooler, and small stains in the upholstery should be removed or change it. Location is about a block away from the American Embassy in a very quiet street. Very easy to get to the airport from there by car. A pretty good value hotel.

Traveler's tip on dining

Try the restaurants at the Psiri district of Athens that’s near Plaka.

Convenient to Airport Train

The hotel is a 5 minute walk to the the metro station, which has a direct train to Athens airport. (A train leaves about every 30 minutes and takes about 40 minutes. Its final stop is the airport, so it’s easy to navigate.) Perfect for a late morning flight. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel too. The staff was friendly, but my room (and especially my floor) smelled of smoke, even though I had requested a non-smoking room. Wireless internet was free, but it only worked when my laptop was in the lobby, not in my room.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

A lower floor may get better internet reception.

Nice Hideaway in Athens

It was a little hard to find (as was everything in Athens), and the supposed room view was so-so, but Hotel Alexandros was professionally run and was a nice Athens hideaway.

The Athens planetarium was a nice diversion. They have earphones in the gift shop for English language.

Ok place

The place was ok... nothing fancy and nothing bad... except the cigarrete smell. Everybody smokes in Europe, and more so in Greece!

excellent hotel when in Athens

The hotel has many good features, among them: excellent location (although not in the trendy Plaka area), within reasonable walking distance to many attractions, convenient public transportation to main attractions and airport (via bus or metro), very safe neighborhood (I’m a female traveling alone and felt very safe walking back to hotel even late at night), and the most helpful and pleasant staff. In addition, the breakfast buffet is all you can wish for and more, the rooms are well maintained and very clean, and the hotel is on a quiet side street just off a major avenue. I’ll be happy to return to the city on my next visit.

Excellent accomodations. Very happy with this Hotel.

We were very satisfied with the Hotel Alexandros. The front desk people, especially Yiannis, Piros and Chris were very helpful and polite. The metro is about an 8 minute walk and takes you anywhere you need to go for an enjoyable trip.

Traveler's tip on dining

There aren’t any sit down restaurants close, but there are some about three blocks away.

Excellent value and fine service

We were pleased to return for a night in October 2007, having previously stayed in September 2004. Some might consider the location (two blocks from the U. S. Embassy) a bit "uptown", but a Metro stop is 6-7 minutes away and the airport is readily and reasonably accessible by Metro or express bus. The room was surprisingly large and quite comfortable. We will return.

Very charming and cozy hotel

This hotel has a very comfortable atmosphere, and is very clean and well-maintained. Staff was quite friendly and helpful. Free wireless and breakfast were a big plus. I was given a larger room than I had booked, and it was clean and nicely decorated in simple decor. The only drawbacks I noted were the lack of clock/alarm in the room and awkward positioning of the showerhead in the bath.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

If you are adventurous, take a day-trip to an island (Aegina is only one hour away), rent a scooter, and tour the island. There is so much more to see on the island than you find right in the port, and the views from the roads along the water are spectacular. There are plenty of beaches and restaurants along the way.

Overall a nice hotel with great service and friendly people. Breakfast in the morning is really good! Try the cookies, they are excellent. A bit of a walk to Syntagma square but it is not toobad at all.

Traveler's tip on dining

If you’re in Plaka, try restaurant Byzantine Tavern. Really good Mousaka and Veal!!!

Nice Hotel in Athens

Spent three nights at Hotel Alexandros with my best friend in July. The hotel itself was nice, the rooms were a decent size and were clean. Our air conditioning worked but the room was still a bit warm (although this could just be due to the intense Athens heat!). The breakfast buffet is decent with a good selection of foods. The restaurant was too expensive for us (budget travelers) so we didn’t eat there. The staff was friendly and delivered a nice welcome fruit plate to our room. The only slight drawback to this hotel is that it is a little out of the way. The nearest metro stop is about a ten minute walk away which doesn’t seem like a lot but walking in the summer heat wasn’t too fun! There is a bus stop close by which can be used too. I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Athens- we had a very nice stay!
