ymca hotel

although the hotel location is really downtown the rooms do have a bath or shower let alone a bathroom. Is more suitable for students than business travelers. I checked in, went to my room and left 5 minutes later to take another hotel around the corner. Staff was decent but hotel is not.

The benefits outweigh its shortcomings

Location, safety and price where my main priorities while booking for a hotel in Copenhagen. All three met my expectations. The traveller opinions were right on the money. It’s not a place to be if hotel accomodation and comfort are your prioroties. It’s just a place to sleep in. The room was extremely small and cramped; and the furniture, tv and beddings were old and basic. They did not even have power adapters in the frontdesk, so don’t forget to pack yours before your trip. Also, buying adapters was hard to come by, I ended up finding one for $28 at an Urban Outfitters believe it or not. The best part of hotel was its location; just blocks away from the main attractions, and across the street from the Central Station which takes you in minutes to the Airport. Service was okay. Breakfast was pretty good. I stayed in a shared bathroom twin bed unit, and the feel of the place was borderline hostel so expect for the worse. Also, request for a room facing the courtyard to get the most peace and quiet possible. Bikes are FREE if you get those on bike racks spread out in the City that have solid advertisement filled wheels; so don’t waste your money spending $20 to rent one for 24 hours.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

It’s FREE to rent bikes if you get one of those in racks spread out in the City that have solid wheels filled with advertisement. You don’t have to get those daily ones for $20/day. These bikes are subsidized by the government but funded by those firms who advertise. Get around on bikes, you’ll get the most out of your trip riding those than buses and trams.

Snug

Good location, although the red light is close by, but so is the train station. The rooms are very very small, and with the TV mounted on the ceiling it can get uncomfortable. The staff was helpul and friendly, but the guy in the room next to me snored and with his bed right up against my wall, it was loud. Breakfast was good. Good for short stays.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The National Museum was excellent.

Good location to train station

Good location to the train station....1/2 block away. Given how expensive the market is overall for hotels, this is a real bargain. Great hotel access to public transportation. Good breakfast. Nice employees.

Long Flight - Bad Reception-Otherwise fine

Hotel was fine but hard to find because the scaffolding in front of the building blocked the hotel sign. After a long flight and little sleep my husband and I were exhausted looking up and down the street looking for the hotel. The entrance was a small door under scaffolding and we weren’t sure if it was the front or the back of the hotel. My husband tried to open the door by pushing in instead of out and the door did not open. So he knocked when he saw someone in there. The receptionist finally came to the door and berated my husband for not pulling out the door. Sure he was wrong but did not need to be belittled. Otherwise no problems with the stay.

Hotel City Nebo ROCKS!!!

I’m very glad I chose to stay at the Hotel City Nebo. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was exactly as described. The facilities down the hall were kept extremely clean. Having bicycles for rent was a definite plus and it’s right across the street from the train station. The breakfast was AWESOME! It’s noisy early in the morning, so bring your earplugs. The fountain in the breakfast courtyard and deliveries in the rear, but it was very quiet the rest of the time. I would DEFINITELY stay there again. The best value I’ve found in Copenhagen.

City Hotel Nebo was comfortable, clean and conveniently located.

It is less than a block from the train station and within easy walking distance of the main shopping areas, Tivoli, the Hard Rock Cafe, some parks, etc. Nyhavn is about 15-20 minutes by foot. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was the typical small European size, but the bed was comfortable (I am 6’2") and the bathroom was decent. NOTE: I had a room with a private bathroom. The hotel also offers rooms with a shared bathroom and showers down the hall. Be sure to reserve the type of room that fits you because the ones with bathrooms are likely to be fully booked if you try to upgrade to one when you are there. It is a clean, nice hotel to sleep in with a nice continental breakfast. You should be satisfied as long as you are not expecting the Ritz.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

The hotel borders the red light district. If you travel north (away from the train station), hookers patrol the streets at night. However, about two blocks to the north on the left side of the street is the Spunk Bar. It is a fun locals bar with a laid back staff and customers. My friend and I hung out there two nights because it is such a nice place to have a casual beer. The bartender, Mariann, is really cool.

Nogo the Nebo

We had been warned that Copenhagen hotels were small, even by European standards. It was an understatement. So set your expectations really low, even for the price. It’s not a bargain. The room was half the size of a standard cruise stateroom. Clean enough. Very noisy on the street side and with no a/c, you need the window open so don’t count on a deep sleep. Breakfast was included. It was full and good, which helped with the price a little. Very convenient to the central station - probably less than 200 yards. However, there are plenty of other interesting spots to stay. One night pre-cruise was enough. It is one of those places that we all look back and laugh about.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Convenient to Tivoli, but Tivoli is overrated. City is very walkable. Visit the Nyhavn region for restaurants and to take a harbor and canal cruise. Get a 24 hour transportation pass at the central station and take train trips to surrounding towns. We went to the Viking Museum in Roskilde and also to Helsingor easily in the same day. The latter has a bustling market area and a shop that has more cheese than I have ever seen in one spot. Enjoyed Copenhagen!

Beware room they want to give you

Read good things about this hotel. Pre ordered a "suite" hoping it would insure superior room. The suite they gave us was on the second floor, no air conditioning, only one window which opened and that window faced onto a noisy street with a bus stop and construction being done right in front. Add to this a glaring street light and you get the picture. When we complained they told us they had a mini portable air conditioner they could rent us! We were planning to stay for three days but checked out after the 1st unbearable night. Make sure you insist on an interior, court yard facing room when reserving. Their breakfast was fine.

Traveler's tip on dining

Walk down to the new harbor watch the tourist canal boats people as you eat or drink at the many canal side resturants.

Exceptional Value in Copenhagen

The Hotel Nebo provides exceptional value in a convenient location. It is 100 meters from Copenhagen main train station. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and professional. If you’re looking for a nice "home base" to explore Copenhagen, Hotel Nebo is a good bet.

Great location

Excellent location. Within walking distance to central Copenhagen. We stayed there on two occasions and both times our room overlooked the courtyard in the back. It was very noisy (deliveries at 4 am)! If you want to stay request a room in the front.

Bargain for Copenhagen

The Nebo is an excelent bargain for the area. It realy is right out of the back door to the Central train station. The breakfast was very good, and much appreciated as food is so expensive in Copenhagen. The room was clean and comfortable. It was however very loud at night, and thus a little dificult to sleep. We where facing the street. It may be quieter facing the other side. The staff where very helpful, and spoke perfect english.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

It is very easy to get to from the airport by train. Saved a lot of time and money.

Clean, friendly and safe

Spent 6 nights at the Nebo with my daughter on a vacation trip. We had two single beds with bath. I asked for a quiet room and we got one at the end of the hall facing the courtyard. Doors are a bit thin so in the morning we could hear comings and goings, but also the lovely churchbells outside. Spotlessly clean, as were the shared baths I peeked into. Excellent breakfast, very friendly staff, and don’t miss the bicycles for rent at a bargain 20 DKK per day. Chinese restaurant, coffee shope, 7-11, bakery and greengrocer all steps away, and 5 minutes from the station. Excellent value.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Very nice bicycles for inexpensive rent, a must to try in this cycling city!

Great value and location

At first I was thinking - whoa, the room is REALLY small, but when you’re paying such an affordable price for an expensive city, you get over that real fast. (I had a single economy room). The bed was very comfortable and I never once saw anyone coming in or out of the shared bathroom facilities (which are actually 2 private bathrooms in their own hallway). Walk one direction to get to the red light district and the other to be smack in the middle of everything. As a single female, I felt comfortable walking around day and night. I was very pleased with my stay and would def. stay again. Breakfast buffet is a huge bonus.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

If you stay at the City Hotel Nebo, Hard Rock Cafe is up a couple blocks (on your way towards Tivoli) and they have a happy hour Mon. - Fri. from 5-7 (2 for 1 drinks). While this is not the ideal spot as a "tourist" there were a lot of locals pre-gaming there, and I ended up meeting a ton of people and going out with them that night. (I went in early April 2009)

great location and nice accomodations for the price

I went for one of the rooms with an en-suite bathroom. It was very comfortable and clean and, as a single woman, I felt comfortable walking in and around the hotel at night. The two downsides, which were relatively minor, were: the wireless internet in the rooms stopped working and the hotel wouldn’t reimburse me; there is no secure place to leave your bags. Overall, I thought it was good for the price and would go again.

Great place -- near the train station

It all depends on what you want, but for me, it was proximity to the main train station and a European breakfast -- free! I got everything I wanted at a reasonable rate.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

You are close enough to walk through Copenhagen. Take advantage of that. No need for a car. It’s all a few blocks away.

Better than expected

I took an economy room at this hotel for one night. I was kind of worried about the "shared facilities" thing they are having and I was expecting to see something that would remind me of college dormitories. However, the "shared facilties" are actually a couple of bathrooms put together in one place, you have the absolute privacy for everything. The hotel is located all the way down Istegade street and not what location map shows, its VERY close to train station and is perfect if you are bachelor guy. The only catch is they have a very limited number of parking spaces (5-10) and wireless internet access is actually not free.

So-So Hotel but Great Location

As we made our plans, we felt as if hotels in Copenhagen were overpriced. Nebo was rated as a two-star, which could have been grim, but we found that it had several redeeming qualities. It was clean and well-maintained and located half a block away from the train station in the center of town. Tivoli Gardens was only a couple of blocks and the Stroget, a pedestrian-only shopping boulevard, was just a little further. We were able to do a lot of sightseeing without ever having to take a cab. Breakfast is complimentary at Nebo, and it was way more than tea and a hard roll--boiled eggs, milk and cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, cold cuts, fruit juices, both coffee and tea choices, several breads, cheese--if you go away hungry, it’s your own fault! It is an old building, however, so the room layouts vary considerably and the smaller (and cheaper) rooms require you to use shared bathroom facilities. It’s not a Hilton, but we appreciated the cleanliness, the breakfast choices, and the excellent location.
