Very Friendly and Helpful

The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. It is really easy to find if you do your homework. The hotel was clean and in good shape. I would go back again.

Helpful staff

I would stay in this hotel again, mostly because the staff is very good. They speak English, and are wiling to help in any way. Other things we liked: the memory foam mattress, the easy walk to authentic trattorias, the computer with internet access in the lobby, the breakfast (included), and easy access to public transportation. One caution: if you are very much overweight, don’t stay here, because you won’t fit into the shower. Other negatives: sirens blared constantly outside our window, and the little TV was quite old and offered very little selection of channels.

A wonderful quaint hotel.. A+

Let me start by saying the outside is very much different from what we expected. having said that- We were greeted as family at the front desk. Everyone was warm and accomodating. The room was very clean and a good size for a European hotel. The breakfast buffet was very good. The #8 tram was right outside the hotel. If you take it to the end, you can walk to Forum, Colloseum, Pantheon, Vatican. WE were very pleased that we chose this hotel. My wife and i travel extensively for whatever that’s worth. Thank you for a wonderful stay. 09/2009

Traveler's tip on nightlife

There are some wonderful Ristorantes approx 3 blocks up on the left in old Trestavere. Go down a few of the side streets and walk around. Old world charm. great food- great value.

Not a great location

This hotel is on the main paved road in Trastevere. Its near a gas station. Not the cobble stone and Old World feel you can get from a thousand other places. If you need to be near the student apartments of The John Cabot University, this is the place you want to be. It also is directly across from the big open market on Sundays. Near #8 tram stop.

Good hotel, good price, some staff less than helpful

We booked 2 rooms at this hotel for our trip in August 2009. We ended up with rooms on different floors and were told rather rudely by the person at the front desk that there is nothing he could do to get us on the same floor. Regarding the actual stay in the room we had a great time. The rooms were comofortable, air conditioning worked well and the breakfast was good and reasonably priced. The other issue I had with the hotel was during checkout. There is a sign at the front desk that talks about costs of airport transfers. I asked the guy at the front desk how much advance notice he needed and he said they needed an hour. When I checked out a different guy at the front desk (the same one that told us he could not get us on the same floor) says he needs 24 hour advance notice to arrange airport transfer and proceeded to order us cabs (2 of them in fact because we were 6 people) that took us for a bit of a ride around town before getting us to the airport. When I questioned him about the airport transfer issue and asked why we could not get a single large cab because that is what we used on the way to the hotel from the airport he goes "I know what I am doing OK. I have been in this business for 30 years. If you don’t like what I am doing feel free to go get your own cab." Other than these minor issues we had a good experience at the hotel and would consider staying there again.

Not a 4 star hotel

Hi there! I’ve been there and definetly this is not a 4 star hotel. The word "small" is to big for describeing the rooms. The bathroom was also the smallest I’ve ever seen in a 4 star hotel. The wireless Internet in the room was not working, but they wanted to charge me for this service. The personell was ok, but they had no chance to save the others details.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

I recomand thet you stay in those 3 star hotels, in the middle of ols centre. You’ll have the opportunity of saving time and money on transportation. And by the way, there are 5-6 companyes of hop-on,hop-off busses. Run away of the green line! I recomend red line

Great place to stay in Rome

We arrived early by train from Bari and they made an extra effort to get us a room before normal check-in time. They then spent several minutes orienting us with a map, and giving us the tram and bus numbers we’d need to get to the major landmarks. Their warmth and extra attention made a big difference in our enjoyment of Rome. The room itself was fine, although a bit tight like most European rooms for our family four. I’d strongly recommend staying here.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Get the 3-day public transit pass for only 11 euros at the tabac down the street, and just hop on and off buses without having to fuss with fares.

Comfortable beds, great breakfast, wonderful staff

I have stayed in Europe quite often and am used to small rooms, uncomfortable beds and "continental" breakfasts. Let me say what a sincere pleasure it was staying at Trilussa. Beds. Were. Amazing. We had 2 rooms and all four of us loved the comfort of the beds even though we all are picky. Breakfast buffet was substantial and filling, I really recommend it. We weren’t hungry again til mid or late afternoon. Staff speak great English, are full of helpful tips and just nice folks. You stay outside of the tourist craziness but are so very close. I often took taxis and never paid more than 7 euro to get to the Trilussa from any tourist stop. I could have taken the tram and walked to most sites but I have arthritis. BTW, the italian restaurant two doors down (next to the sushi place) has spectacularly good food and wine. I mean the best food we had in 3 weeks in Europe. Ask for a wine recommendation: He chose an inexpensive white for us that was amazing.

Good Views

Enjoyed our stay in Rome and at the Trilussa. The hotel is not really near any of the sites, but once we figured out the bus/transit system we were set. Great restaurants in the area. The shower, as others mentioned, was hard to get used to. Had one problem during our stay, and the hotel took care of it without any hesitation. We’ve discovered during our stay in Italy that all beds are hard and you won’t find feather pillows.

GREAT LOCATION, Clean, Modern, uncomfortable bed and shower

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. The location is great. Trastevere is a good/safe neighborhood. We had no hesitation with walking to the middle of town for dinner or ice cream at night. The room was alittle small for what we paid, but very clean and modern. The high-tech shower was too small for normal use, and didn’t give good massages. THe bed was comfortable to me, but my husband needs a firm mattress, his back was miserable, so that would be a matter of preference. The staff was nice and accomodating. We enjoyed the rooftop bar everyday after sightseeing. They have Tuborg on tap, it was the best new beer we tried. The gym is free to use, which we didn’t know. It’s only the spa area that you have to pay for, but it was wonderful and i suggest paying for it. All attractions are within a 5 minute Tram/bus ride and both are at the corner/across the street from the hotel.

Very good value, slightly off-location

Stayed 2 nights on business trip, based on colleague’s recommendation who has lived in Rome for 2 1/2 years, as well as tripadvisor reviews which were pretty accurate. Happy with the choice overall. Since the hotel is not in the main part of town, it is quiet. Tram access across the street gets you in main part of town for 1 euro within 10 minutes. Very convenient. Got great price on Expedia and room was good (small for more than 2 people). I requested one double bed via Expedia, but got 2 twins. Beds were firm, but comfortable. The room was decent size with an electronic safe, minibar (did not use). The shower -- a funky turkish bath shower stall -- was pretty cramped, but kinda fun... a lot of jets. At 5’7" the stall was small for me, and would be tiny for a a taller person. Internet in room was 10 euro for 24 hours, very fast. Breakfast was decent with a lot of options, but nothing great. Breakfast starts late at 7 am for you early people. There were some local restaurants, but I recommend going into the city for dinner. Had a few minor gripes. No coffee facilities in the room and no iron. Apparently, by law they cannot loan you an iron -- you need to use housekeeping. Difficult when you have a business meeting early in the morning. Also, my wake up call on the first day was 15 minutes late. Staff was friendly, wouldn’t call it stellar service, but definitely pleasant. All in all, would return here because of convenience (quiet & accessible) & value.

not ideal

I always knew i would have a horrible experience at a highly rated hotel making me an outlier. that time is now here. This hotel was probably the worst i have stayed in while traveling in Europe. I had the bad luck of being stuck in a room without a functioning shower. no attempt was made to fix it. The location is also not as ideal as everyone says. The location is not great; definitely NOT the place you want to be if you are interested in seeing all that Rome has to offer.

Traveler's tip

dont stay here!

Dear Sir we would like to thank you for your feedback about our hotel. We apologise for any inconvenient that you may had with the shower but as far as you did not report the problem to the front desk we could not help in this matter. Our front desk is open 24h and it is at your complete disposition for any need. As described on our Internet page we are in the center of Rome in the Trastevere area. Expedia gives the possibility to locate the hotel on the map, gives description and distances of the near-by points of interest so we suggest checking details before making reservations. You can not expect to be next to Colosseo or Spanish Steps.

Didn’t live up to expectations

We were taking a 2-week, 5 hotel European trip- all hotels booked via Expedia, in the same approx price range and customer rating. Trilussa did not measure up to most of the rest unfortunately. We requested early check-in, but had to wait several hours to get in at regular check-in hours. That’s hard when you have been on a plane 8+ hours, need a change of clothes and have to wait around and burn valuable hours in a city. Also the tips they gave at the desk (as far as tickets for the metro) were not accurate so it caused some confusion. Overall we got the impression that we were not really that important-which is a strange attitude to take during a world-wide recession.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Rome is a super-walkable city. This hotel is in a perfect location to walk to the Vatican, as well as all the ruins, etc. Take advantage of the local public transport system bc cabs are about 1000% the price of a 1 Euro trolley ride and walking a block or two.

We take this opportunity to address concerns with these clarifications: Our check-in time is 2pm because it is our standard for all rooms to be cleaned before the guest arrives. We understand that after an 8 hour flight, guests would be very tired, which is why we offer early check-in options. It is important for our future guests to know that this is a courtesy not an obligation because it is very difficult to have the room ready by 8am when we are fully booked. The guest above experienced these conditions. In case we are not able to guarantee an early check-in, we give the possibility to change and take a shower in our SPA dressing room and also the possibility to leave bags in our luggage storage. We also give this opportunity for late check out. I apologise if the tips were not accurate as well. As our customer satisfaction is our most important goal.

I would stay there again only in Winter though

The Hotel is very clean and the staff was very friendly and spoke english. The only thing I didn;t like is the Hotel didn’t have AC so the room was hot even when we went in December. You do have the ability to open the window to cool down the room but in the summer this wouldn’t help. The area is close to alot of good resturants that are within walking distance. The only downside is at night you have to deal with alot of homeless begging for money as you make your way to San Francisco street which is where most of the good restrurants are located.

Make sure you have small euro’s like 5’s, 10’s when going to Rome. Alot shops and Resturants including our Hotel say they don’t have change. Other than that the city is pretty safe we walked alot which is the best way to see Rome but like any major city alwayes be alert and when you use your camera put it up when down don’t walk down the street holding it.

very comfortable

Our stay at the hotel was wonderful. Most of the staff were very helpful. But several were not and seemed uninterested in helping us. These were night staff and the requests were simple. Overall I would go back there. The location was great. The room itself was terrific. Being on the trolley line got us to many places. We were very close to many fabulous eateries. You can eat your way through Rome.

Great location!

We really enjoyed our stay here! The location is great! Trastevere is one of the nicest areas of Rome with tons of places to eat and very active nightlife. All the major attractions are very easily accessible by public transportation (trams and buses) with stops right outside the hotel or by foot if you enjoy a lot of walking. We purchased tram tickets but decided to walk everywhere instead. The hotel is very clean and comfortable and the entire staff was very friendly and very helpful!

Traveler's tip on dining

Dinner at "Ai Fienaroli" is an absolute must! This restaurant was recommended by the hotel staff and was by far the best dinner we had in Rome. It is an antique Trattoria on a side street in Trastevere.

Very good hotel for Rome

This location was very convenient right on the #8 tram in Rome, 2 stops on the tram to Trastevere Station to grab the train to FCO airport. Staff was very friendly and accmodating. The beds were comfortable by hotel standard, but are solid foam type and maybe problematic for certain types of sleepers. Overall a very good stay, superior rooms have small but nice Turkish Steam showers that aren’t described in detail here on the Expedia site. We inspected but didn’t use the spa but it was very nice, daily breakfast is more than "continental" and is a buffet, probably a good deal for folks who need to eat in the AM.

Traveler's tip on dining

Lots of good places that aren’t crazy $$in this area, Trastevere is one of the better Bohemian enclaves of Rome, wander the streets and don’t be afraid to try someplace. Places of note close to the hotel are Pucci Osteria, and CAVE CANEM. Near piazza Navona you should hit PICCOLA CUCCAGROMA, we have been to rome twice and this place never disappoints and is reasonable.

extremely satisfied with my choice

the trilussa was an awesome pick for a hotel stay. my bf and i spent a week there and were very satisfied. the staff was extremely helpful, spoke english well, and helped us get oriented with the location and public transportation immediately. from the hotel, it is a short tram and/or bus ride to anywhere in the city. the hotel has a gorgeous rooftop bar w/ a beautiful view, the rooms are slightly small but very clean and comfortable, and the shower in the superior rooms is amazing. we were disappointed to find out the hotel was non smoking, but the staff was very courteous and gave us a room with a balcony to accommodate our smoking needs. there is a grocery store about a block away to buy snacks or liquor from, and the chinese food/pizzeria next door had some of the best food we ate the whole trip.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

the hotel is located a couple of blocks away from a really interesting area near the st maria piazza. the area is picturesque w/ cobblestone alleys and tons of restaurants and bars. the area gets really lively every evening around 8 or 9 o clock and stays crowded until about midnight. plenty of locals and tourists mingling and eating/drinking. its almost like a big block party.

Off the beaten path, but recommended.

Travelled with my wife and 9 year old son for a summer holiday in Rome, and very happy to have stayed in a small but friendly and helpful hotel staff, from check in to check out. Rooms are tight but neat and comfortable beds and pillows. Free breakfast is good enough to fill your morning before touring city. Used the tram snd bus daily right in front of hotel to Termini Station and most tourist spots. Hotel staff go out of their way to assist in any way they can.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Hotel is few meters from Trastevere train station, and few steps to tram, to reach nearby restaurants and La Argentina, where it’s a couple of blocks to the Pantheon and Piazza Navona.

Nice hotel but.....

The hotel was very nice and the hotel staff was very helpful. Most of them speak very good English. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very large compared to others that I have stayed at in Europe. However, I would not stay here again. The hotel was not close to the train station and I found that it was quite difficult locating the buses that return to the hotel. If you ride the buses a lot and now their schedules/routes, you may not have a problem. Rick Steves and Frommers rave about the Trastevere area of Rome. This is not the same area that they speak so highly about. It’s North of this hotel and closer to the Vatican. The sidewalks near the hotel were littered if newspapers, garbage, dog feces, and somtimes with homeless people sleeping on them.

Excellent Hotel with attentive staff

Hotel location was not approximate to local attractions but the area of Trastevere was very charming and not touristy. The staff at the hotel was very helpful especially Sergio who worked in the mornings. The breakfast buffet was good and included eggs and bacon. The cappucino was excellent. My only complaint is that the hotel did not provide irons nor ironing boards. I found public transportation to be difficult and did not have a metro system that covered the entire city like Paris. I would stay here again. Also visit Sale and Peppe Restaurant down the street.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Traveling during the summer was difficult with the heat and humidity therefore to make sure you don’t waste time in lines make reservations and the wait time is approximately 10 minutes.

Worked well for our family

My family of four (husband, myself, 16-year old daughter, and 13-year old son) spent two night at the Trilussa Palace in late July. We reserved a family room which worked very well for us. There was a door off the main hallway, which opened into a small corridor leading to two rooms. One had two twin beds and a bath, and the other had a queen bed with a bath. Having two bathrooms was wonderful for getting everyone out in the morning or for quick clean ups before dinner. The twin beds are right next to each other (touching) but made up separately. The bathrooms were a nice size and generously appointed. It’s about a 30 minute walk to the Colloseum. We used a taxi for the Vatican. The tram system is also just outside the hotel. The location is not in the typical heart of the touristy section, but there were plenty of restaurants and gelato places. It might be a little off the beaten path for some, but we were very happy with it.

Convenient and comfortable

We had an excellent stay. Spent nearly two weeks at the hotel, and found getting to all major sites easy by tram or bus. Hotel is also a five minute tram ride from Trastevere’s very good dining scene, and near the very lively waterfront area. Hotel is "close enough" and at the same time away from too much noise, and crowds. Beds were very comfortable, air conditioning reliable (July is hot!)and staff very friendly, helpful and always around. Nice rooftop to sit and even take a little mid-afternoon siesta, before resuming sightseeing and evening activities. Would definitely go back.
