Nice - Good value
The Hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. The rooms are on the small side, which is fine as long as you know what to expect and are not planning on spending too much time in them. The decor and fixtures in our room were old fashioned. Continental breakfast was adequate and the evening wine hour was a nice touch. Good value overall for the rate.

Comfortable, but not a luxury hotel
Downtown location great to find local restaurants and coffee/pastry shops. Only a few blocks to nearest cablecar stop and grocery store; frig and microwave in room. Hotel staff friendly and helpful, fire alarms worked great when the penthouse patio caught fire... Definitely an old building, great character without the luxury of space. Bed was comfortable, coffee and wine enjoyable.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Buy a 1,3,or 5 day pass at the airport, ride cable cars, buses or BART (underground) all over the city easily. Cable cars are $5 one way to jump on; our 3 day pass was $18 and took us everywhere we wanted to go.

A Special Gem in a Crown of Jewels!
My last trip to San Fran, I spent the nights on a Navy ship so anything clean would have been a step up! That said, We were very pleased with our 5 nights at this hotel. Charming, clean, comfortable and so affordable, no 2 rooms are the same! Be sure and ask for a room in the interior of the buiding with windows opening to small courtyard due to street noise and the fact that youll want your window open (no air conditiong) but its not needed and is far more comfortable than usual dry motel air! Staff was friendly, pm wine offered in lobby was nice, but we bought fruit at the market cause cont. breakfast was bread/rolls only. Nob Hill is perfectly located and with Muni Pass we had full, easy access to cable cars, busses and electric busses. Highly recommend - spend your money on fun in the city and come back to a comfortable room, nothing fancy but clean, hot water, friendly staff & guests, central to everything!
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Buy a Muni Pass for getting around the city! Plus you get admission to 5 great sites to see. Capps Restaurant in North Beach (Little Italy) was a wonderful place with great food, staff and history!
