Great Hotel
Perfect hotel for business. Walking distance to NEC. Staff was excellent - friendly, helpful and efficient. Comparing to other UK hotel rooms, the Ardens were good sized with an exceptionally large bathroom. Definitely would stay again - great value for the money.
Traveler's tip for business travelers
The Arden has a bar menu and also a restaurant (a bit pricey). However, there is really no other restaurants nearby.

NEC captive audience in Birmingham
Basically, there is a shortage of hotels in and around the NEC in Birmingham. I have stayed at several places over the years and they basically have 3 grades: Cheap B and Bs that are usually pretty scruffy for the average business traveler i.e.Questionable beds/linens/bathrooms no internet but usually with decent breakfast!. Or the overpriced but well appointed hotels. The Arden is in the middle. Good staff and facility (great gym and pool!) decent breakfast, and a bar! The down side is the bedding: thin sheets, pillows and tired blankets. One big complaint: they are just past walking distance to the train station and airport, but make no attempt to facilitate travel to these points. You basically have to wait for and pay 12 dollars (6 pounds!) for a 2 minute ride. Get a van, please.
