Carnegie Hotel
A block from Central Park, just off Broadway
General Information

What to expect: Occupying a vintage New York building with modern updates, the Carnegie Hotel hosts theatergoers, shoppers, and sightseers from around the world. The hotel, formerly an apartment house, opened in 1998. Small and intimate—five stories and just 20 rooms—the Carnegie is an appealing alternative to the city’s larger hotels.
Amenity highlights: Location is the star attraction, with Broadway just around the corner, Central Park one block north, Columbus Circle and the Time Warner Center two blocks away, and prestigious Fifth Avenue shops within four blocks. Guests can fuel up for the day with a complimentary Continental breakfast, including bagels, muffins, and croissants.
Insider tip: The Ansonia, an architectural gem, is on Broadway and West 73rd Street, a pleasant walk or short subway ride from the Carnegie Hotel. Opened in 1904 as an apartment hotel, the Ansonia featured a palm court and a lobby fountain with cavorting seals. Residents and guests included conductor Arturo Toscanini, composer Igor Stravinsky, and slugger Babe Ruth. Bette Midler began her singing career in the building’s Continental Baths (now closed).
