Driving directions: From the airport, take the new National Road in the direction of Agios Nikolaos. Take the exit for Hersonissos port and follow this road until reaching the junction with the old national road. Here, drive across the junction and then follow the signs for the Aldemar Hotels.
The best way to get around Crete is by rental car or bike, although buses go to most places throughout the island. The Cretan bus company KTEL has stations in all the larger cities and stops all along the routes. Many locations are also accessible by ferry and boat taxi. Taxies in Crete are reasonable but visitors should make sure the driver uses the meter.

A large, popular resort, Chersonissos lies 27 kilometres from Heraklion. It offers sand beaches with water sports facilities, and a buzzing nightlife with English-style pubs, cocktail bars and nightclubs. There’s plenty for children too, including go-karts, and a miniature train that runs along the seafront. The Star Beach complex combines a beach, water park and spa. The 18-hole Crete golf club lies seven kilometres inland.
