Love the breakfasts!

The Almondy is a great place for a weekend away. The location is perfect for walking to shops and restaurants on the harbor. The afternoon wine and cheese is a wonderful and homey time. The breakfasts are terrific and filling.

Great spot in Newport

This is a clean and comfortable bed and breakfast just steps away from the middle of Thames. The innkeepers were very accomodating and personable, with a great deal of hospitality experience. We would definitely return to this b and b on our next trip to Newport.

Great Place

First time at a B and B, so a little worried. The owners made us feel right at home. They could not have been nicer. Breakfast was great, and the location even better. Was going to skip Newport on our 2 week new England trip, turned out to be the best part. Stayed 2 nights and saw 7 of the mansions. Definitely stay at The Almondy!!

Delightful Stay

Staff was wonderful. Met lovely travelers. Accomodations very comfortable. Homemade breakfast delicious. Even inspite of the Cold Weather, was able to walk to all sights. Very convenient location. Lots to do in a very quaint historic town. Can not wait to visit again.

Our stay was perfect. The Inn was clean and decorated beautifully for the holidays. Breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed the fireplace and wine on the day of our check in. Location is perfect for walking around town.

Great location

We stayed 3 nights. The innkeepers are very nice; they were there when you needed them and answered all our questions. Breakfast was very good - fresh fruit every day with some kind of egg dish such as quiche, and homemade muffins or sconces. One night you could clearly hear a loud band neaby however the room air conditioner provided white noise which helped a lot. I was appreciative that they accepted children over 14 yrs, we even played Scrabble and watched a movie one night in the room after a full day.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The Newport Mansion store is across the street. The Premium Tour gives you 5 tickets to enjoy mansion tours. We went to First Beach but found a lot of red seaweed, go to other beaches. The Ghost Tour is a must- we learned about Newport history and heard spooky stories! The Red Parrot is great for dining with children, air conditioned and prices are reasonable although the service could have been a bit better.

Superb

Almondy Inn is the best possible location - on a side street, but only 2-3 minutes from most of downtown Newport. Off street parking is a real plus. Evelyn Valkenbuerg, the innkeeper, is a wonderful, friendly person. The amenities are firswt rate: an excellent, substantial gourmet breakfast, plus wine & cheese from 5-6, just when you want to relax from the day , meet Evelyne and other guests, and perpare for evening evnets or dinner.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

For a very nice harbor cruise, take the SightSailer, a 16-passenger, two-masted sailboat.

Great Location

This B&B is in the heart of Newport. It is just steps away from Bannisters and Bowens Wharf. It is on the main street of Thames with tons of shopping/restaurants. They provide free parking (priceless in this area). I was looking forward to the eggs Almondy that I have read so much about. Instead they had an omlet with chorizo. I love chorizo, but my wife hates it. She just had plain eggs instead. They have a video colection for your vcr/t.v. combo and board games. We watched two movies. They could use an upgrade on their little bulky cathode ray tube T.V.s, but they did work fine. The rooms, bedding and bathrooms were very clean. However the closet and drawers were dusty which dirtied our clothes a bit. The wine and cheese reception in itself was nothing spectacular, but the great thing was getting a chance to chat with the innkeeper and other guest during this time. This was very fun and enjoyable. The Innkeeper gentleman is very kind, sincere, non intrusive and will help with any questions. They provide nice umbrellas which is nice, b/c it rained some while we were there (one umbrella was torn), they had a couple to choose from. Some windows were difficult to open. The rooms are smoke free which is nice, b/c they smell very good. The beds are comfortable with several pillows. I will be back a few years from now, and hope they continue to maintain and upgrade the rooms with new ammenities.

Traveler's tip on dining

We ate 9 different clam chowders at different restaurants and The Black Pearl had the best by far. Sailing is a must and the prices are inexpensive. They are all 1 1/2 hr tours and range from $25-35. Just walk around Bannisters and Bowens Wharf to choose from the many sailboat excursions available. They all have a list of times for departures and returns.

Super clean Almondy

My husband and I had never stayed at a bed and breakfast and did not know what to expect. Well, it was fantastic! I couldn’t believe how amazingly CLEAN everything was! The innkeeper was super helpful even when we broke the key (oops!). Her breakfasts were delicious and relaxing. Oh and the location was PERFECT! Everything was in walking distance! Would definitely reccomend The Almondy Inn!

Traveler's tip on dining

Eat at The Black Pearl it’s right across the street, the food is fantastic, and the atmosphere is cozy. We also ate at 22 Bowens but we thought it was overpriced for the overall taste/experience.

Mediocre

Location was good in that it was convenient to the harbor, however, it was also next to a bar/club that pumped loud music well into the night, which kept me up. Also, the inn keeper acted like we were putting him out any time I asked a question.

Great hosts, excellent location.

We liked the couple that own this bed and breakfast. The house is beautiful and they serve wine and cheese at 5PM as well as an excellent full breakfast. I would definately go back. My only complaint was the pillow-top mattress, many would like it but my back didn’t.

Wonderful experience at Almondy Inn, Newport RI

We had a wonderful time and experience staying at the Almondy Inn. Everything was close by and easily walking distance. Street parking was tough but the Inn had parking available to it’s patrons. The breakfast was first rate and a joy to speak to the owner.

The burgundy suite allow us to have children with us.

Will definitely go back

My husband and I went to the Almondy House for a special occasion. The Inn was immaculate and the rooms were comfortable. The Innkeeper, Evelyn, was gracious and friendly. The homeade breakfast was excellent and we enjoyed the afternoon wine and cheese. Could not beat the locaton of this Inn, it was right downtown and near everything. Happy it had on-site parking.
