A bit too silent

We booked a week in the Kura Hulanda Lodge on the Westpoint of Curacao. The rooms were more than we’d expected. Very private, comfortable bed, big balcony and a good working shower. There are a few downsided though. There is absolutely nothing around and the place itself just doesn’t offer enough to not make you totally go crazy with boredom. So rent a car, cause without you’ll be going through your books a bit too fast. The other thing is [but I have to say that this is not only a problem in this hotel, it’s the island fever I think] that the people working in the hotel are absolutely friendly, but also absolutely unqualified to do the job. Service is so poor, they just don’t understand or don’t see things. For example: chilling out at the pool with a book is a nice way to spend a few days when your on a tropical island... But as business at the swimmingpoolbar is kind of slow in the middle of the day, the bartender is getting bored and desides to go watch a movie while listening to his favorite cd... pretty LOUD. And when you ask him kindly if he could at least turn one of the things of he just looks at you blankly and lets you feel that he thinks your stupid. So good hotel, nothing to do for miles and miles, not much on the premises of the hotel and friendly but really bad staff. The diveshop [which is not a part of the hotel I believe] offers expensive [on other parts of the island it is much cheaper] but good courses.

The hotel was gorgeous. Staff were friendly and helpful. The whole experience of being on the island was transformative. We’ll definitely be back!

great

I would highly recommend the hotel, food was good. Rent a car so you travel to other beaches. Great diving right off the boat dock. The dive shop is great and friendly personal.

Take a trip to paradise!

My husband and I stayed at Lodge Kura Hulanda and had a fabulous honeymoon there! I recommend the all inclusive package as the restaurants tend to be a bit pricey, but the food is so delicious it is definitely worth it. The resort is on the quiet side which is perfect for relaxing. The island is beautiful and the water is crystal clear. All of the staff were helpful and spoke several different languages. I highly recomend this resort to anyone who just wants to get away from it all.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

The beach has a lot of live rock and shells, so if you own pool/water shoes you should definitely bring them.

One of the greatest resorts you will ever see

I booked this trip one week before my wedding. Curacao was not our 1st choice, until we arrived at the Lodge Kura Hulanda. Without a doubt, it was the best 7 days of vacation I have ever had. The resort is beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The staff is fantastic and goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is top notch. The food was one of my favorite parts. The chef is awesome. The ocean views are breathtaking. The resort itself has onsite: kayaks, pedal boats, snorkeling, scuba. An activity coordinator is on site most days to help you plan off site excursions: i.e water tours, mountain climb, atv tours, etc....

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

It’s a coral and sand beach, so make sure to bring beach/water shoes for easier walking comfort. I didn’t have any and I survived, but when I return, I will bring them. Also, make sure to at least snorkel (scuba too if you like). The scenery in the water are amazing.

Diving paradise

positive: best for divers and people who want to be away from the crowds. small, clean and cozy hotel. 5-star service. watamula restaurant is excellent. negative: only 2 restaurants open at night and if you don’t have a car it’s your only choices. not enough shade at the beach.

We want to return as soon as we can

We LOVED this hotel-it is beutifully maintained, the food is excellentt-we were on the all-inclusive plan which sometimes means the food isn’t great-this was not the case at the Kura Hulanda. Spent a lot of time on the beach-you need water shoes becasue of the coral, but it is still a lovley beach with great swimming and snorkeling. Our room was very nice-some of the best pillows we’ve ever hda in a hotel in teh caribbean. We would definitely go back and have recommended to several friends.

Things to Think About

The Lodge is a nice hotel. The hotel is not set up like a typical hotel with rooms interior to the building. Each room has its own entrance. The hotel staff was very nice and very accommodating. Initially, the hotel did not know we were on the all-inclusive deal. Once I showed them the paperwork, everything was fine. There were many ants on the Lodge property. Because the restaurants are all outdoors, cats wandered into the dining areas. This was not a problem for me but I imagine it would be for someone with a cat allergy. The property is very isolated. It is a great place to relax. If you want to hang-out and see the city, you need to transfer to the sister hotel in the city. The hotel in the city was nice. The staff was very pleasant. The city hotel is closer to restaurants and shops. It is great that the hotel allows you to transfer back and forth.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

The boat trip to Klein Island is very rocky. If you are subject to motion sickness, then be prepared. The boat does not drop you off on the sand. You get off the boat in waist deep water. The waves are rough and if you are like me you can fall and all of your stuff gets wet including all electronics. The food was first come, first serve and only available on the boat. Bring your own drink when you are on the island. There is no bathroom on the island.

An amazing place to stay on Curacao

After a drive to the far end of the island, we arrived at this wonderful place. We were greeted with cool towels, a cold drink, and a warm and friendly staff. They upgraded us to an ocean view room which was wonderfully appointed. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and the restaurants and lounge serve good food. You would definately want a car so you can explore the island from here. Beach is small but well maintained. This is the ideal place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the island!!

Kura Hulanda and Beach Club Lodge

The hotel was great. We checked in on a Saturday in March. We had reserved a Garden view room. We were some of the few guests to check in first that weekend so we were immediately upgraded to a Garden View Suite. Awesome! The lady at the Activity / Concierge desk was fantastic. She really tried to accommodate us. Between us being ill (prior to coming to Caracao) and weather turning the last couple of days, we could not do the trips we wanted to, but, that was fine. Beaches were empty during weekdays. Very nice and relaxing. The only suggestion I have for the hotel is to work on creating an underground irrigation system. The hoses were above ground, which was slightly unsightly, and when they "fertilized", the entire garden view area smelled like sewage, albeit only for a couple of hours, a couple of times per week. But, it is something that would improve my rating if the hotel was to tend to it.... Otherwise, I have to say, if you are in to relaxing, this is the place to do it. I would highly recommend it.

Great Vacation!

My husband and 12 year old son just returned from a week at Lodge Kura Hulanda. We stayed in an Ocean Front Suite and could not have been happier with our accomodations. The room was great and the outside living area was fantastic. This is a great place for a relaxing vacation. The snorkeling right off the beach could be compared to snorkeling in tropical fish tank. We look forward to returning some time in the future.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

If you are looking for night life this might not be the place for you. It was perfect for us but we were looking for a quiet and relaxing beach vacation.

Very nice hotel, but not if you go for business.

I liked the hotel very much. Very nice spot. I will go back if I can go for a week-end or longer. I was in Curacao for business, so the hotel was too far from the city. It’s no problem is you have a car.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Rent a car.

The best resort in the Caribbean!

This is our third time visiting the Lodge Kura Hulanda and Beach Club. It is a wonderful place -- absolutely peaceful, terrific management and staff. Everyone knows your name and treats you wonderfully. The beach is breathtaking, the food delicious, the snorkeling amazing, and the grounds are gorgeous. I don’t even want to tell people about this wonderful place because I fear it will be spoiled.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Make sure to rent a car. It’s much cheaper than taking a taxi.

Awesome!

If you want a quiet luxurious Hotel with great shore diving this is it. My wife and I spent several days here during our honeymoon. We did a lot of diving right from the Hotel’s beach. The dive site is known as Alice in Wonderland very nice. If you get a chance you need to do the boat dive to a near by site called Watamula. It is a very beautiful dive. The restaurant’s at the hotel are nice, a little pricey. We would recommend bringing groceries from Williamstead if you want to save a little money! We stayed at several other hotels in Curacao including Habitat ( a well known dive resort) and the Marriott. All were very nice, but this one was our favorite!!! Good luck!!

Terrific Honeymoon

Service was pleasant. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Very quiet, peaceful. Gorgeous grounds. Well-maintained. Good security (if needed at all?) Amazing beach is few shorts steps away, pool is sufficient. Resturaunts/bars/eateries were very good, limited selection though. You will be bored if you eat every meal there for more than 4 or 5 days. I would go back in a heartbeat!

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

This was a great place to just relax for the week. We didn’t have to worry about hurricanes, the snorkeling was AMAZING! Island was quiet and safe (we tackled the whole thing) Not a tropical island, but the landscape is just as breathtaking.

Relaxing

The hotel was everything we expected. The ocean view room was comfortable and well appointed, with a fridge and cook top area. The meals at the restaurants were very good and the menu changes from day to day so you’re not stuck with the same choices over and over again. With the exception of the front desk staff on 2 days the staff was VERY friendly and courteous, though service in the restaurants was a little slow if you were in a hurry. (WHY?)

Traveler's tip on dining

Ask about the "soul food" restaurant not far away.

Wonderful Honeymoon!!!

My wife and I stayed at the Lodge Kura Hulanda and the Spa/Casino Kura Hulanda during our honeymoon. The Lodge was OUTSTANDING!!! From the moment we arrived they pampered us with a welcome drink and a wet towel to freshen up at the lobby desk. We had a beautiful view from our room with a large lanai and plenty of trees/foliage that kept your room "private". There are two good restaurants and a fun pool bar at the lodge. On the beach connected to the hotel there is a great little place to eat lunch and get a drink on the beach. Our only regret from the trip was not staying at the lodge for the entire time. I can’t say enough good things about this hotel. Wonderful!!! BTW: Don’t be worried by the trip from the airport to the hotel. One you arrive at the lodge you are in paradise!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Get the continental breakfast from room service. A little pricey but you can’t beat the quality and the amount of food. We had so much left over we put it in out fridge and had breakfast the next day.

Great hotel, great snorkeling

Hotel was perfect for my partner and I. Very relaxing! Make sure to eat at Landhouse Daniel (20 min away). Snorkeling right off hotel beach is good and it is excellent at the black sand beach (via hike or water taxi after 15 min drive from hotel) and at Langun beach (10 min drive). Food at hotel is good, but not excellent. Beach is relaxing, but don’t plan on swimming without snorkeling. Take beach shoes for water or plan on wearing fins.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Unless you eat a lot, don’t do the all inclusive.

A great place for a quiet getaway

Great service, fantastic beach, outstanding diving, and quiet... very quiet. Definitely come, unless you’re looking for smoking hot parties. I saw some people mentioning food before I went. Food is very good, no problems at all. We went with all-inclusive (probably more expensive than paying for each meal + boat rents etc, but makes for a more relaxed stay if you don’t plan to leave the hotel much). With the all-inclusive we had meals at the hotel for a week, always good, no probs. The way I read some reviews, people were expecting the rare tuna from Oceana or the filet on the bone from Del Friscos, which for those who don’t know are here in Manhattan and cost over a hundred bucks per person. It’s not that, but then again you are paying a lot to the resort for location + accomodations, not nearly as much for food. Bottom line, food is good. People also said you must rent a car. I stayed for a week, didn’t read a book, splept 9 hours a day tops, and still had a couple things I wanted to have done but couldn’t - all without leaving the resort. I take the point that there other magnificent beaches on the island, also the town is pretty cool, but it is not true that you MUST rent a car, not at all. Also great diving, I did the avanced open water course there, dived in the marvelous reef just out the shore, and paid less than I would have in NY (I checked the week before we went on vacation) - great deal. Granted, beginning of May was the cheaper, low season, so check beforehand.

Traveler's tip

This place is about twice as expensive as the "3.5 star" all incusives from Jamaica and the Dominican Republic. I didn’t this mind a bit, it’s a different vacation all together, but I also had a fantastic time at these other places in different occasions. If you’re travelling with a group of friends, for instance, I’d recommend the less expensive, larger resort options since you won’t be able to enjoy what you’re paying for at this place in this case.

Curacao May 08

As a tourist Curacao may not be the most ideal place to visit, but, I had a good time. The hotel surprise me because it was not what I seen in the picture or what I imagined it to be. It is not Luxurious, it’s woodsy, but the people are kind and the room was clean, very small but I hear it is big considering the others in town and once I went into town I believed them. Mostly what I would like to see changed about the Lodge Kura Hulanda is the shuttle service, I’d like for there to be more than one return time in the evening, 5pm is too early when all the happenings are in town, I never got a chance to do happy hour at the sister hotel of the Lodge (Hotle Kura Hulanda Spa and Casino. And didn’t get a chance to do casino much because of the return time of 5pm. Overall I had fun, shopping was good the food was good the grounds at the lodge was a little picturesque and I went to the Aquarium, it is small, but they have Sharks and you can interact with them and other fish species. Ideally, it is a place for couples or single men to enjoy. There are plenty nice looking women, who I bet would have warmed up a lot more to me if I had been a man. I’d go back to shop for a day or two.

Had a great time

Hotel service was excellent. Pool was nice and not crowded. The beach was also not crowded and had good snorkling from the beach. I didn’t like that they took the chairs away at 6:00. I was very dissatisfied with the food. The only choice for breakfast was a $15.00 per person buffet breakfast. The food choices weren’t worth $15.00. The saturday night special buffet dinner was horrible. The best thing I ate was chocolate pudding and cream of wheat and cornbeef hash for breakfast. Other then that, the staff was more then accomodating.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Rent a car and stop at the grocery store for breakfast items. Also, it’s nice to see the island. Explore, there are many nice beaches down desolate dirt roads worth visiting.
