Antigua - Great Family Vacation
If you are looking to get away with your family, Dickenson Bay Cottages is it. There are only 12 cottages surrounding a pool. The maid and maintenance people are friendly, do their jobs well, and the pool is open 24 hours a day. It is a walk, down a hill to get to the beach and I recommend a car for Antigua. However, roads are not well labeled, and are sometimes just dirt roads. However, Dickenson Bay Cottages is very well worth the money. I stayed with my husband and 5-year old and we had a blast!
Traveler's tip on shopping
Can bargain up to 40% off in the local market for souveniers. Epicurean is the supermarket to go to. Go to the Australian Ice Cream place for awesome ice cream. Pari’s Pizza across from Dickenson Bay Cottages has excellent pizza. However, food is not cheap since most has to be imported. Food bill at supermarket was $300.00 for the week for two people.

Great place for a short or inexpensive stay
We booked a one night stay at Dickenson Bay Cottages before heading to St. James Club. Dickenson Bay Cottages is off the beaten path. Close to the beach but it is somewhat of a hike for the young or old. The cottages are very spacious and very clean. If you are staying during the summer months, make sure you know how to run the air. We woke in the middle of the night to a very hot cottage. There is no facilities at this location other than a pool. You can walk a short but hilly distance to the beach. There are some eating establishments on the beach. During the summer months, these places close around 4:00pm. For breakfast, I would suggest a short car or taxi ride to Aqua Motel. All in all a very nice facility for the price. The main bed is in the loft on the 2nd floor. There is a pull out couch in the living room. However, the staff was very quick to deliver to portable beds to our unit for our two kids. I would recommend this place for those lookig for a good value away from the noise of a beach front establishment.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Don’t let the reviews of driving around the island scare you. The best way to see Antigua is by car. Even if you are staying at an all inclusive resort, rent a car. You will want to visit the various beaches, local resturants and food stands. Once you get use to drive on the other side of the road for you US vistors, getting around the island by car is a breeze.
