Would stay again
Hotel room was very small, but thats to be expected in Europe. It was very clean and was cleaned daily. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful to us. The hotel is not in the main areas where the sites are, but not a far train ride from anything (2-10 minutes).
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Highly recommend the Fat Bike Tour Company Paris pass for all the sites and unlimited use of the metro.

Great Location, Comfortable Hotel
Although our room was on the street and noisy on holiday week ends (11 holidays!!! this May, we were told), we loved the hotel, its helpful staff, its variety of current newspapers and magazines, its convenient location (between Republique and Bastille) for walking everywhere, and the friendly neighborhood with lots of people in cafes and action on the streets. It served us well.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
We walked everywhere--the best way to enjoy a city--and discovered lovely surprises in almost every block. We suggest taking the metro to the museum or site you want to visit and walking back, stopping to eat when the feet and legs tire. A small, manageable museum is the Jacquemart-Andre, a fabulous, intact private collection in the original owners house.

Overpriced and a bit seedy
Lets start with the good things. Good location, with two metro lines (the 8 and the 5) very close, and with easy access to Gare du Nord. The Marais is an easy, quick walk away. The common rooms - reception and a good sized waiting room - are bright, cheerful, and well kept. The bad news starts when you leave the ground floor. My room was dingy, seedy, and in severe need of new paint and a new carpet. The bed linens were a bit threadbare. The bathroom - shower only - was clean, but tight. My room faced onto Rue Amelot, which was noisy with traffic early in the morning and drunk students late into the night. The single paned window struggled - and failed - to keep the noise to a minimal level. That said, given the location and the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff (very - for Paris), Id have been happy if the room had cost me about half the rate I paid. This is a decent 2 star, Paris hotel. Unfortunately, the rate I was charged was more in line with a 3 star, or even a cheap 4 star. At those prices, I wont be back.
