All around excellent stay

My wife and I had a stop over in London for a night and stayed at the Apex City of London Hotel. The hotel staff was very friendly and helped us with recommendations for dinner. The room was modern, and for London a good size. The bathroom was massive with a separate shower and tub. The price we paid was reasonable, especially for London during the summer. It is located near two tube stops for easy access. We will definitely make this hotel our base in London from now on.

Wish this hotel was in every city I travel to!

This hotel was great. We were in a budget room, but it was very nice, clean and up to date. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful with everything. We were sightseeing so didn’t spend a lot of time in the hotel, but just a short walk from the tube and the Tower of London, it fit all our needs. Thanks APEX!

Slick, clean, comfortable, quiet

I would recommend this hotel to my friends. It is clean with nice size rooms and modern bathrooms and amenities. The location is in the financial district, so it is quiet. If you want to be in the middle of the nightlife you might want a different location. The Tower Hill tube stop is a five minute walk.

Very nice hotel and staff. Excellent location

The hotel is 2 short blocks from the Tower Hill "tube" stop. The faclity was impecable and the staff professional. The room (King) was generous after staying in several other typical Euro-rooms at other facilities. I will return to this facility next time travels take me to London.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The hotel is 2 short blocks from the Tower Hill "tube" stop. The Tower of London is right there. Cool. The faclity and staff were impecable. The hotel is located in a business/government area and Saturdays and Sundays will have less people in the immediate area (on the streets). There are several nearby pubs and eateries just around the corner. With the Tube right there, sightseeing and travel is a breeze.

Service was spot on

My husband and I recently spent the weekend at the Apex in London - we arrived around 10am from Chicago and were delighted to find out our room was ready. The rooms were spotless, although small, which is to be expected in Europe. The service was friendly and very efficient - from the front desk to the food service. Standard double is barely big enough to set up the ironing board and there wasn’t much of a view. The Apex is a bit out of the way and the area all but closes down on the weekends but the tube is very convenient. Would highly recommend. Do not expect the same type of service at their headquarters in Edinburgh....that is another story.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

The Assembly as well as 2 other bars/diners are just down the block - to the right of the hotel. Area is pretty dead during the weekend - grab a cab for any type of nightlife

Great London hotel

Great location, hotel, and restaurant. There really isn’t anything we didn’t like. The hotel is about 5min walking distance to Tower hill underground station. 5-10min walk to Tower of London and Tower Bridge. Its a safe area to walk at night. The staff was more than kind, helped with every request. Rooms were clean and quite.

Not impressed

Hotel is too far from London centre. Walking frrom the tube in the Tower Hill district is not recommended for single women. The hotel staff were not knowledgeable - with one exception - the young man who booked shows and took care of most of the question for the reception clerk. He was very good. The Internet service was poor to non-existent on the Monday morning. No one at the hotel seemed to have any knowledge about it. Breakfast was not included - a first for me in a London hotel. The dining-room staff were not pleasant and the hotel could not provide a decent pot of tea - quite something for an ex-pat in a London hotel. The food I ordered was not good. The beds were too soft it was hard to get a good night’s sleep. The hotel itself looks good, but it appears that little thought has been given to the staff and their response to guests. With a few changes in attitude and attention to guest comfort it could be a much better hotel. It was a Bank Holiday while I was there so the usual staff may not have been on duty.

Traveler's tip

Do not stay at this hotel if you are a single woman. The walk from the tube to the hotel at night is not advisable.

Ideal for repeat visits

Extremely convenient for business visitors conducting business in the city. Very good restaurant and room service menu. Convenient to mass transportation and some must see london sites for the tourist. Also, walking distance to a varied selection of scenic restaurants across the bridge.

Excellent find

This hotel is a long ride from the airport near the Tower (lots of traffic to go through) but worth it. It is very modern with dark-colored rooms but with the latest technology features (flat screen, DVD player, wireless, whole-room speaker system, separate shower and tub). Enjoyed the brief stay as it was close to a subway station, walking distance from the Tower of London but also in a quiet side street to get work done. The attached restaurant is stylish with good food but a little pricey. Overall, I will definitely go back when in London

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Get an Oyster card for the London Tube (subway). It is a multiple ride card you can load with as much money as you like and then just swipe when entering the stations. It makes the in-and-out of the subway much faster given that most stations are quite busy. The rides are also much cheaper this way. The cards can also be reloaded at leisure. And, when boarding and un-boarding the trains, please "mind your step."

Comfortable stay

Nice, new hotel away from touristic London. Close to subway. Difficulty for me was that staying at weekend and bank holiday all eateries and shops around this place were closed for 3 days.

Great find!

We wouldn’t have considered staying in the City other than the reason that we needed to be close to St-Paul’s for a wedding. I would, however, stay here again in a second. Our room was comfortable and quiet, the staff was helpful and friendly, and we really enjoyed the area -- even over the weekend! This hotel is really a great find.

Impressed!

This Apex is hidden away in the City but within a couple of kilometers from Tower of London and the Tower Bridge. A couple minutes from the Tower Hill tube stop and thus very convenient to everything. Except for the room being a bit small (for two people) I have nothing but praises for the Apex. The facilities are very modern and comfortable. Friendly and helpful staff. Would definately stay again.

Therte are better hotels

Room was small, Internet access price was ridiculous. Staff was friendly and helpful, although short-handed on Saturday. City of London is totally dead on Saturday. A good bar off the lobby.

Scandinavian mood hotel in Central London

A very nice, clean and modern hotel on a quite sidestreet. Our room on the first floor was very well equipped (also Ethernet) although the window was very narrow and set in the corner of the building - so not much day light. It’s definitely on my positive list for London.

Apex City of London--A Good Find

This hotel is hidden away in the City very close to the Tower of London. A couple minutes from the Tower Hill tube stop and thus very convenient to everything. Modern boutique hotel feel, very comfortable rooms and quiet (at least in the back where my room was). Service was professional. I didn’t take any meals at the hotel. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Surprisingly very good hotel to which we would gladly returnn.

We needed a hotel not too far from Liverpool Station since we flew into Stansted Airport. The Apex was in a part of the city that we did not know too well, and because it was so quiet on our little street looking out on a beautiful small park, we were amazed that we were living right in the City. Do hope we can return. Staff was attentive and very gracious.

Traveler's tip on dining

The Haz restaurant nearby for excellent Turkish cooking under the eye of the owner who comes from Izmir. And breakfasts at the hotel.

Great location

My husband and I stayed here during the week of Christmas. It is located in the financial district...so a little quiet at Christmas. However, we thought the location was great.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

We could walk about one block and be at the Tower of London (and you need to get there early), and one block from Tower Hill (tube station). If flying to Gatwick. Book the Gatwick Express before you go, take it to Victoria Station (tube) then to Tower Hill (exit here for hotel). Oh, and we felt very safe...even at night. There is a little pub with good cheap food across from the hotel.
