Would stay here again
Really impressed with this hotel. Really good price, good amenities. We had some issues with our TV, which they fixed promptly. However, my guest was fluent in Shanghainese and Mandarin, so I can’t say anything about how well the staff speaks English.

Clean enough, but some smell in the hallway
The hallway on the 8th floor, where my room was , smelled like some Chinese hot pot food, but the room itself was clean and didn’t have any strange odor. Room furniture is of American style but the beds are smaller than in U.S. The room runs drinkable water. Like some other reviewers mentioned, the soap dispenser in the shower doesn’t work very well. I don’t know why they wouldn’t just switch to small bottles of liquid soap and get rid of those clumsy dispensers. The hotel is not at the prime location but close enough to major attractions like the Huangpu River and Xin Tiandi (new heaven and earth) by Taxi, which costs a fraction of those in New York.

Nice Hotel- Good Location- Bad Smells
The hotel is not actually called Jin Jiang, but rather just "New Asia" which is very confusing for tourists and taxis alike. The room was clean, the bed was extremely hard and the restroom was adequate. The hallways smelled terrible however- though it may have been due to other guests, I’m not entirely sure. The internet service was very expensive and the total for internet use is added to your stay when you check out. Overall, a good budget hotel close to all the attractions- don’t expect luxury.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Try the Chinese style breakfast, its a refreshing difference from the Western offerings! Walk to Nanjing Road shopping area- its only about 20 minutes away.
