Spacious and comfortable room

The room looked like an apartment with the many cooking facilities available. It was spacious and clean. Staff was friendly and nice. The only thing that disappointed me was the strong smell of air fresher in the room.

Nothing for a good night sleep

The Hotel was clean and comfortable but I wouldn’t recommend it. The Mattress was torture, I mean it. The Venn in the roof was defect and made the whole night loud and funny noises.

A small taste of Europe

This is a fine little hotel that reminds me of travelling in Europe. It allows you to stay and dine in the Little Italy section of Providence on Federal Hill. Its a great change from a chain hotel!

would visit again in the spring

Cleanliness was impeccable, bed was lumpy and sunk in the middle, no where to park, have to pay to have your car parked....wonderful restaurants very authentic Italian food and goods.

Traveler's tip on dining

Wonderful, small hotel within walking distance of all Providence.

I would definitels stay here again for some of the following: 1.Full kitchen in my room. 2.Very attractive all white/chrome room. 3.Outside patio restaurant much like the "piazzas" in Italy.I had lunch with the sun beaming as I sipped my wine.Ah, life is good.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Providence has one of the finest regional theatres in the country, Trinity Rep, where I went to the final performance of "Antigone".

Not very satisfied

While the suite had a small living room and a bedroom, the furnishings were very sparse and not too accomodating. The entire room was white tile and all white, so it made the stay feel like a very cold room rental. The employees were very attentive and willing to help with any other type request.

Traveler's tip on dining

There are some interesting casual dining restaurants and cafes surrounding the hotel, so its proximity to that is good.

Wonderful Boutique Hotel

Right on a plaza with a fountain, several restaurants w/ outdoor seating and a crooner singing Frank Sinatra songs. Trolley stops out front, so no need for a car. Plaza can be a bit noisy at night when it’s Karaoke night. Manager was quite helpful recommending spots to eat! Had a great getaway!

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Took the trolley to the Rhode Island Fast Ferry for the 1 hour trip to Newport, RI. Spent the day walking around all the mansions before returning that evening. The trolley is there waiting for you then too!

Not Impressed

The people that work at the hotel are great... it all ends there. The room wasn’t that clean and the bed was lumpy, hard and uncomfortable. The room is described as "European" but it should be described as a no-thrills hospital room and leave the poor Europeans out of it. I will say this, you can’t get a better location if you want to hang out on Federal Hill and have a great dinner.

Missed the mark

This hotel was a great dissapointment. The tv was blaring when we walked in the room. The floor was still very tacky from being washed (never felt clean). The smell of bleach was nauseating. Too bad as the hotel is in a great location and with new cleaning products could be just fine.

great location, but overall it was just OK

I was expecting the all white interiors to come off as modern and elegant, but instead it was somewhat institutional feeling and cold. The stainless steel artwork and white tile floors added to the sterile feel of the room. We had a suite and the room sizes were generous. The bathroom was somewhat dated and the cold water faucet came apart in my hand as I turned it on. The room safe lock and key also did not work. We were only there for one night, so didn’t bother asking for maintainence. The location on the plaza is very nice, but our room faced the side alley and a row of smelly dumpsters. I would recommend asking for a room with a balcony facing the plaza, although it may be noisy in the late evening. We were awoken by the sound of a truck in the alley around 6:30 am after a late evening out. The Little Italy neighborhood and access to cafes and restaurants is the nicest aspect of the hotel, and for this reason, I would recommend staying there.

Totally Recommend It...

This was our 2nd stay. An excellent alternative to big chains. Cheaper, too! Totally white rooms make cleanliness impossible to skimp on, and it was spotless. Air conditioner was on high when we arrived, which was a pleasure on a hot, humid day. Also, it’s right in the middle of a charming little plaza in "little Italy". We’ll be back!

Location, location, location

No real noise problems on a Friday night. You can hear people in the alley but they weren’t unduly late. Comfortable beds and the hotel is in a great location if you want to be in Federal Hill. It’s the Little Italy section of Providence, so don’t expect many dining options other than Italian (duh!), but mama mia! What great dining! We liked the restaurant right next to the hotel, La Dolce Vita: nice outdoor seating near the fountain, very good service, and excellent food. Really liked the gnocchi, and the linguini e vongole (white clam sauce) was fantastic. Also the best calamari I’ve ever had, bar none. The hotel is European feeling (read: small bathrooms and no elevator) and though the all-white decor is a bit outre’ it is spotlessly clean. Only real complaint is that there was nothing to sit on in our room (room 1C) other than a single white leather club chair and a couple of teeny hard plastic chairs that were best suited to a quick cup of coffee at the teeny little table. Nice kitchen appliances, and a fully stocked kitchen -- except for a corkscrew. If you remain in the Federal Hill area you won’t need your car. Overnight parking is $15 in the hotel lot, but the desk folks will take care of moving it in and out of the lot and will bring it around when you leave. We will definitely stay there again; it was a great location and a quiet, comfortable hotel except for the lack of a couch or love seat. Other rooms may be configured differently than room 1C.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Park your car and walk the couple of blocks up and down Federal Hill area. It’s actually more difficult to drive the few blocks than it is to walk it. Wonderful dining opportunities, and lots of Italian grocers and imported items for some interesting shopping.

Not Great for the Money

This place was fine, but the biggest disadvantage was, it did not have parking space. You need to pay additinal charges for parking which would add up to your bill. Door fittings were note great, and not adequately sound proof for a peaceful nights sleep

Providence’s Italian Gem

We booked this hotel as a quick stay between Boston and Martha’s Vineyard. It was spacious and had a full kitchen. The jet tub was a nice touch. It has a lot of character and is not your typical motel or upscale hotel. If you’re not looking for a great view (rooms seem to face the alleys) but are looking for a comfy beach apartment style room, this is for you.

Traveler's tip on dining

Located in the little italy area of town.

Not a ’chain experience’

Very nice suite hotel with very personalized service. Wonderful restaurants in neighborhood. Easy access to major highways and downtown Providence. Federal Hill neighborhood has lots of atmosphere -- I thought I was on vacation!

Traveler's tip for business travelers

This hotel offers a more homey experience, especially if you are tired of the typical ’cookie’cutter chain hotel. Lots of space and personalized service.

Not our style at all....

The hotel room is supposed to have European flair... If Dolce is an example of this than we have no interest in going to Europe. Everything is white, which we thought would be a nice change from the traditional rooms but we don’t think it works. It feels much like a hospital room, but with many amenities. The furniture wasn’t very comfortable and the room smelled of chlorine, but there isn’t a pool. It wasn’t all bad though. The staff were helpful and nice and many popular attractions are within walking distance.

Traveler's tip on dining

Dolce Villa is located in the Federal Hill neighborhood of Providence, which is Italian. All the restaurants we ate at were amazing. We especially enjoyed Andino’s... it was real, authentic Italian cooking. Even if you have a good appetite, you may not be able to finish your meal. The cafe/bar next door to the hotel was excellent for breakfast. We can’t complain about the food, that’s for sure!!!

Great location plan to return,

Hotel is very clean and bed was very comfy. Location- great for access to interstate and our family. Place is all white which is a bit much.Slight odor of bleach. Federal Hill’s delis and inkitchens=yum. Garbage & trash pickup early am outside room! Loud! Will go back.Worthwhile, convenient, private.

Business trip

I would have recommended this hotel if sleeping was not important. The bed and pillows are as hard as a rock. If you are a caveman come here and you will get a great nights sleep, if not you will definitely have a problem.

Cool Place

Everything was great. Service, cleanliness, etc etc. Only improvement that I could suggest would be a little more subtle lighting in bedroom. I appreciate the flourescent bulbs but in the bedroom it would be nice to have something a little softer to set a more relaxed mood.

Everyone went the extra mile!

From the time I stepped in the front door, the excellent customer service began. The staff was attentive, flexible, and responsive. A charming area within walking distance of some great dining and sight seeing. I am sure of where I’ll stay each upcoming visit to Providence. ~ Dr. Love
