Beautiful setting for the hotel
The grounds and pool of the hotel were beautiful with the large grassy area in back and the mountain in the backyard. The pool was clean and a perfect temperature. My only complaint was that our non-smoking room smelled like cigarettes.

Mediocre Motel
Most hotels in Durango were expensive due to summer vacation season and location to the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad I guess. This motel is a little worn. It was clean, but the mattress sagged. The continential breakfast was minimal, but I expect that with a lower price although $149 a night is not cheap. We stayed there for the price and location, but I would pay more to get a nicer place next time especially if staying more than 1 night. Everything in Durango is high. It cost us $4.00 to wash a load of clothes at a laundrymat in the area because the motel dryer was broken. The dryers took a quarter for 7 minutes.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad trip was awesome. The scenery was beautiful. We road in a vintage car and I enjoyed the experience. We took the train from Durango to Silverton and rode the bus back. The 3.5 hours up was enough. The train rocks quite a bit so you may tire of it. But the views are phenomenal.
