Needs new mattresses
Unfortunately, the mattress I slept on was old and springy. Otherwise, this is a basic, no frills hotel, good if you just need a place to sleep for the night and aren’t looking for a cushy room to hang out in. The traffic on Lombard Street can get a bit noisy.

staff was wonderful
the staff at this hotel made up for the 70’s decor. They could not have been more helpful. The traffic is a bit loud at night. Could not beat the price.

Good option -- but don’t count on internet service
We came back to the Coventry after staying here once before, and it was as we’d remembered it, with one major exception -- the "free high-speed internet access" they promise was not working, and never worked the whole time we were there. Furthermore, the hotel didn’t seem particularly interested in resolving the issue, and the third-party entity that handles their network never brought anyone in to fix it. The access point in the hotel office works fine, and as a result they didn’t seem to understand the severity of the problem elsewhere in the hotel, where none of the access points worked. If internet access is not a major issue for you, then the Coventry is a great place -- conveniently located, nice enough accommodations, and free parking -- but if you require internet access during your stay, do not book here unless they can assure you that they have resolved the issues they were having in the summer of 2009.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Request a refrigerator and they will provide a dorm-sized fridge for a small daily fee. Also, you may want to request a room that does not face Lombard Street -- there’s a lot of traffic on Lombard and it can be noisy.
