A great stay
Great staff with real expertise in helping me explore the city and surrounding areas. In addition the concierge connected me with a private guide who helped me understand/appreciate the famous Terra Cotta warriors. The hotel has an ideal city center location that offers easy access to monuments, the old city wall and interesting neighborhoods.

Okay for one night
When we arrived at the Sofitel, we were pleasantly surprised to see the lobby, which looks to be recently renovated. The smile stayed on my face as we walked through the upstairs hallway on the way to our room. And then, as the bellboy opened the door to the room, I was no longer smiling. It seems they renovated the public areas of the hotel, but not the rooms. The room was fine; just not luxurious or 5-star. Everything seemed a bit old and dirty, although not excessively so. We tried one of the hotel restaurants, where the food was pretty bad and my husband found a long black hair in his entree. Not the most appetizing. Overall, I am glad we only stayed one night at the Sofitel and in Xi’an. There is definitely not enough to see in Xi’an to justify staying more than one night, and I would certainly not recommend a longer stay.
