Will definitely book this hotel again when returning to St. Petersburg

Great location. Extremely helpful Concierge service. Spacious rooms. Friendly staff. Although $ 7.00 for a bottle of water at the bar was rather pricey. Do not let hotel call your taxi - it is about 3 times the going rate if you call your own. Rate per night is very much in line with what is available

Need updated rooms

Nice Hotel, in the middle of everything. Front desk is a little understaffed, price for in room internet is very high. The rugs in my room were very dirty, almost to the point you didn’t want to walk on them in bare feet. However, other than that the room was very clean. It just needed to be updated. I didn’t eat in the hotel, there are so many great places nearby. The staff seemed to be very attentive and accomodating. English is spoken and they were very helpful in getting the documentation I needed for a Visa.

First time back to Saint Petersburg in over 10 years. We are glad that we chose the Petro Palace Hotel and plan to stay there again. The hotel offered everything a tourist needs; including sightseeing tours, transportation, a gift shop, lounge and restaurants. The rooms were comfortable and nicely decorated. We were impressed with the extremely helpful hotel staff. The hotel has a great location in the center of the city within walking distance to many important sights which saves on time and transportation costs. Highly recommend this hotel, especially to those not with a large tour group.

Pros and Cons

This hotel is in a very good location near the Hermitage. Easy walking distance to most of the major sites tourists want to see. They also have a cab service for a heafty price that can take you farther. I would not characterize this hotel as 4 or 5 star. It was more like a motel 6 in the US. Nothing special. I was not impressed by the hotel staff. We arrived a few hours earlier than checkin (noon). And, even though I had written to their email that we would be arriving at that time, they made us pay for an extra night to checkin prior to noon. The room was already ready too. Just a different sense of "customer service" there. Also, we had ordered ballet tickets to be delivered to the hotel, but the hotel front desk had no idea what we were talking about when we were asking for them. Luckily, someone had placed them in our room. Not so sure the front desk was on top of things. Be prepared to pay more in St. Petersburg than in places like Moscow. Overall, it was the location that won out over having to deal with the evils of the front desk clerks. The morning breakfast included a small typical buffet: yogurt, breads, juices, sausages, etc. It seemed like many tour group types were staying there.

Don’t check in until after noon or they will charge you for an extra night.

I recommend the Petro Palace

This hotel is in a great location, near the major attractions. The room we had first was average, but they switched us to a better room when we asked. The older building is nicer than the new building in the rear. The best part of this hotel is the RESTAURANT! Superb food and atmosphere, extremely reasonable compared to other restaurants, we had dinner there twice. Nice pool, too.

The restaurant is a fine, white-tablecloth affair with fine food at a low price. Performing gypsies provided entertainment on one night.

Petro Palace, St. Petersburg, Russia

Reservation request for a quiet room was granted--no view, but very quiet. Late June at that lattitude it does not get dark until after 11 pm, and curtins did not fit well--so the room was not dark enough for me to sleep well. The hotel is small than it looks in the website photos, but this is a plus. Breakfast expensive but good and large variety. Excellent location!

In summer, the room may be too bright at night--take your melatonin. Other places to get breakfast are not convient, so be prepared to spend money on breakfast, or coffee and pastry only in the lobby bar.

Petro Palace is not a 4 star hotel

Petro Palace is by far one of the worst 4 star hotel I have stayed in. Location is very good, but that is the only thing they can brag about. The shower was awful water barely came out of the shower and the water temperature changed every second.

Petro Palace Hotel, St Pete, Russia - GREAT location, GREAT Hotel

We chose the Petro Palace hotel for location, location, location AND that they would accept our pet - a small dachshund (at NO add’l charge). Initially, our selection was based on prior visitors’ favorable reports. Now that we have spent 10 days at the hotel, I can tell you that the rooms are clean, spacious, quiet, staff friendly (multi lingual) & helpful, & that the hotel NOT have the most impressive lobby. FREE WiFi internet in the lobby area. FREE parking at the front door to the hotel (we drove from Moscow). As far as location goes, you are at the VERY center of most things to see & do - you simply canNOT beat the location. However, IF yoy would like to spend ALOT more money, you CAN stay at the Astor, 150 mtrs down the street, & be at a historic location, & have a HUGE lobby; BUT IF you want a GREAT hotel at a GREAT location at a really FAIR price - this IS it. BTW, the hotel has numerous restaurants around it - ALL GOOD, & INexpensive.

As a foreigner living in Moscow, what I CAN tell you of importance is that IF you live in Russia, book thru Expedia, & get a MUCH better deal than from local travel agents.

Make sure you understand where the subways are in relation to the hotel. They are a short walk but you need to know where you are going.
