Hotel Tornabuoni Beacci

This hoel was a delight. While an older building with antique furnishings, they were useful, comfortable and well maintained. Nice bathroom toiletries. All of the rooms are different and I got to peak into a few. We had a back of building -no view but quiet. The breakfast was very nice but could get crowded in the dining room. In warm weather the patio looked like it would be delightful to eat out on. Several lounges and hidden patios. I wish I had had more time to explore the nooks and crannies. Consierge service was very attentive and helpful with all types of recommendations. They made reservations and got us into the Uffizi when our tour was cancelled.

You’re paying for the location

The hotel is basic and its glory years are well behind it. The staff was helfpful so no complaints there. Florence is expensive so the price isn’t out of line but don’t expect a typical 3 star experience. If I were to do it all again I would stay outside of Florence and train in by day. The city is a zoo of cars, scooters, bikes, and lots and lots of tourists. The hotel is on a fairly major street near high end shopping with lots of traffic noise but is is a quick walk to most things.

Great location at a reasonable price

I stayed at the Beacci Tornabuoni for two days following a trip to Rome. The front desk staff was very helpful during my short stay, and the location (just a block from the Arno river, and in the midst of the priciest shops in Florence) can’t be beat. The hotel is older and the walls are a bit thin, but I was very comfortable and the hotel room itself was large by European standards. As an example of the "above and beyond" attitude of the staff, on the day I was leaving, I inquired about how I could buy a bus ticket, since the bus stop right outside the hotel stopped at the Florence train station, and seemed the best way to get there. Since it was a Sunday, the shop to buy the tickets was closed, but the gentleman at the front desk fished into a box of discarded items by guests and told me they had found an unused bus ticket and gave it to me. I offered to pay the 1.20 euro that the ticket was worth, but he insisted I just take the ticket. It was a small gesture, but is exactly the kind of thing that sets a hotel apart in my book. If you’re looking for a central, reasonably priced hotel in Florence, look no further!

Mixed feelings about this hotel

This is probably a love it or hate it hotel. The hotel is located on the 4th of a building right downtown. The hotel décor is clearly classical; in fact it is like stepping back in time 100 years. The rooms themselves are very small, and aside from the TV and airconditioner, everything feels 19th century :the worn wooden floors, creaky wooden furniture, the bed headboard and mirror. Only the bathroom feels more modern. Overall the rooms are very no frills. There is no internet access in the rooms. Also, the beds are very soft. If you like soft beds, you will be happy. But if you like firm beds, you will have back and neck aches (like my wife and I did). The public areas are filled with old paintings, winding hallways (I got lost a few times!) and some nice sitting rooms/libraries. Staff spoke good English and were friendly. So here is where the love it or hate it dilemma comes into play: the hotel clearly has an interesting historical character/flavor (like the town of Florence itself) which is nice, but at a very high price (almost two fifty per night) I strongly question the value for money. Plus the soft beds gave us aches. We found some nicer hotels also in a convenient downtown location going for cheaper rates. We would probably stay at another hotel on our next trip to Florence.

Charming and attractive

We stayed in a few hotels in Italy and we really enjoyed this one. The rooms are a little small, but they are very cozy and uniquely decorated. The whole hotel is very charming, and sitting on the terrace for breakfast or at the end of the night was a nice way to start and end the day. The breakfast was good with meats, breads, cereals, and fruit. All of the people working in the hotel were also very friendly and helpful, which isn’t always the case in big Italian cities.

This hotel is first class. Staff is helpful, accomdations were wonderful!

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. It is centrally located which is a big plus ... the rooms are very comfortable and clean. The breakfast service is delicious and plentiful. The roof garden is so delightful, in the morning for breakfast or the evening with a drink. The staff was friendly and helpful. If I ever return to Florence, this is where I would stay.

Make reservations for Uffizi and Accademia before you leave home...it was worth the extra fee not to wait on line.

Central location

Fabulous central location - very convenient to walk to most of the sites - typically less than 10 or 15 minutes to everything. Rooms were very reasonably priced and very comfortable - we had rooms 16 & 19. Room 19 was quite large for a European hotel - bathroom very good size as well. Hotel staff extremely nice - hint, have them book your reservation for the Uffizi Museum and/or Accademia Gallery when you arrive so that you avoid the 1 to 2 hour lines to get inside those museums. You’ll then pick up your tickets at the Museum about 15 minutes before your scheduled reservation time & zip right in. Enjoy the bar inside the hotel as well as the rooftop terrace. We definitely would stay here again.

Awful Hotel

We were so disappointed with this hotel from the start. It was my girlfriend’s 40th birthday, & we booked 4 months in advance through Expedia. We called before our arrival to request an upgraded room since it was a special occasion. They said they would see what they could do. After check in they took us up 1 flight of stairs, down another (layout is really confusing) to Room 28.This has to be the worst room in the hotel. It was a small dark room with a view of the alley! It felt like a dungeon. To add to it’s charm, they were kind enough to leave the dirty imprint of a former occupant’s sandal on the wall, complete with a dead bug (apparently someone found a solution to the hotel’s mosquito problem) - no 4 star hotel I ever heard of would ever let that happen, or even have such an awful room. I was so embarrassed that I had chosen this place for my girlfriend’s 40th so trying to make it better, we went back to the desk & told them there’s no way we’re staying in this room. We reminded the front desk that we had called and requested a nice room with a view, & the guy pointed to his hand written ledger & said he didn’t see any notes on such a request, & then proceeded to look down his nose at us & said "Well you see you are not preferred customers, & blah, blah, blah - not enough characters to explain the whole story, but you get the point. We ended up switching rooms 5 times! This place is awful!

Great location!

Hotel location was fabulous! Two short blocks into the center of Florence and on Florence’s "5th Ave",one block from the Arno. Hotel is the top 3 floors- on arrival I was a little "put off" by having our room on the 3rd floor since lobby and dining room were on the 4th floor, but it turned out to be no issue. Very elegant "palazzo" feel. Roof garden for breakfast was wonderful.Great views! Simple continental breakfast. Good service. Unfortunately, roof garden/dining room only open for breakfast while we were there.Would definitely return.

Okay but not great

Hotel is in an excellent location. Upon arrival you have to enter through building and go up shaky elevators to hotel. Our room was not one of the better ones, smelled moldy. We had to haul our luggage up stairs and then down stairs. There was no one there to help. The entire time we were there we did not see a lot of staff. The gentleman at front desk doubled as bartendar and seemed a little overworked. There were not enough towels and bed not completely made. We arrived after the check-in time. The rooftop terrace is very nice. It was disappointing to find that there is not a restaurant and you cannot have dinner on the terrace. They have not served dinner for over a year but it still shows on Expedia that there is a restaurant. Breakfast was okay. Positives are that it is fun to stay in a hotel with an interesting history and room was clean. I would recommend but only if you get a good rate. I consider it a 3 star.

Great Location

Hotel is in the heart of Florence’s upscale fashion district and just 5 minute walk to the Duomo, Uffizi, and other major sites. Excellent rooftop terrace. Decent cold breakfast buffet. Our only complaint is that upon check-in we were told that we’d have to move rooms after our first night’s stay, as another reservation had requested a specific floor (the floor we were on). The room we had for subsequent nights was much smaller. We overheard another guest say that he had to move three times during his stay at the hotel.

Excellent Location

Excellent location, within walking distance to many attractions. Parking available but not cheap, 30 euros for 24 hours. Very difficult to locate by car, lots of one way streets.

Will definately return

This hotel experience is what you would expect for an "old world charm" of Italy. The staff made us feel like we were part of their family. Perfect location for seeing all of Florence. We spent Christmas there and it was beautiful. Bravo, Bravo, Bravo!!! Grazie per tutto.

What a great place!

We had an amazing experience. Location could not be better, staff was incredible, breakfast so delicious. We will be back!

Traveler's tip on dining

For a delicious extremely inexpensive meal go to Trattoria Marione. Very Italina, not a turistic spot but a place where the locals eat. Right around the corner at Via della Spada 27r.

Incredible location and value

I had read the reviews here and this hotel did not dissapoint. After spending 5 days in Rome in a lovely apartment, we were pleasantly surprised with this hotel in Florence. The location cannot be beat, in the center of the city, steps away from the ponta vechio but yet quiet and sophisticated. Wonderful staff as well who were extremely friendly and helpful. Wonderful, wonderful!

Great place- Great location

We booked the hotel at the last minute and therefore got a great rate. The TB is a very comfortable hotel with great personnel. The hotel is very centrally located in the BEST area of the central district- right across the street from the Ferragamo palace and all the other high end shops. Would definitely recommend the TB, depending on your budget.

Staff

The personal service and willingness to assist by so many of the staff and management is what made out stay such a pleasure. We were there for a week and will definitely stay at the Tornabuoni Beacci on any future trips to Florence. Their beautiful roof top terrace was a wonderful area for breakfast or a lite meal. Kudos!
