Wonderful View
View from the front of the hotel is incredible in the late afternoon of the harbor/water/hills.

good place to sleep and view Funchal from front porch of hotel
lovely old hotel high above the shorefront in funchal...looks like something from an old movie, very funky...room was in the newer addition in the back, very small and bath even smaller! but we were mainly there to sleep. nice to have the hotel pool right outside our door, and we had a view of the ocean, even tho the advert said we didnt. very reasonable price tho we had to walk abit to get to restaurants and shops, which helped work off some of the fantastic food we ate in funchal. Breakfast provided was fab, more than continental and different every day. very good. would stay there again as we plan to return to Madeira again. what a fantastic, beautiful island
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
we travel alot and tend to stay in less expensive hotels most of the time, if we arent camping. This was a very reasonable package with our flight from lisbon to madeira and the hotel was acceptable to us. Brunch was great and delicious, staff was very friendly and had a nice porch to sit and sip coffee

Not impressed
The hotel was not easily accessible, did not provide the usual services of a 3 star hotel, some of the rooms were not acceptable, they charged 5 Euros for using the safe deposit. Some of the staff did not have some simple information on hand,etc.
