The truth about Morand: awful experience at any price
We believed theprevious review and found the location convenient enough to give Morand a try. What an unpleasant surprise! There is absolutely no charm in this hotel but badly decorated, dirty, and smelly rooms. The first room we were offered literally smelled like sewage and the replcament room came with sheets that were slept in before complete with hair. I would recommend avoiding the hotel at all cost. We are planning on making it through our first night here to move to another place in the morning even if they dont give our money back.
Traveler's tip on nightlife
Rouen seems to quite down quickly at night. We had a good meal at the old market square at a place called Le Comptoir de Place and would recommend it. However dont expect a menu or service in English.

Terrific location - Great Value - Made us want to return to Rouen
We had no particular expectations other than to use Rouen as a central location for visiting Normandy, to see the area frequented by the Impressionists and the Normandy Invasion Beaches We would spend three nights in Rouen, with several days later to be spent in Bayeaux. What a wonderful choice the Hotel Morand in Rouen was. The hotel has been recently rennovated and is delightful. We like the old inns, coach houses, etc, and this one is charming. The owners could not have been nicer and were right on with their dinner reccommendations. The hotel is within a block of the Ceramics museum; less than two blocks from the Beaux Arts museum. Both sights not to be missed. The cathedral and walking streets are within just several blocks. The Morand ranks with the best of two star hotels and made Rouen a much more memorable city than we had anticipated.
