Best bang for the buck (or Euro if you prefer)
We just returned from a trip to Europe and stayed at Novotel for 4 nights after reading comments at Expedia. It has really exceeded our expectation. It’s in a great location right by River Seine. Less than 5 min walk to Metro station, where you can catch M1 line to go anywhere. Free breakfast buffet is excellent, and free web browsing at lobby is also great. Friendly staff. Room was very clean and quiet at night. Bed was comfortable to me (I prefer firm mattress). The only thing missing is a good restaurant nearby, but we just eat elsewhere before taking the Metro back at night.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Did all major Paris attractions, but enjoyed a day trip to Versailles most. Go there on weekend, when they turn on the fountains and play classical music. Also skip the ticket line for the Castle and go directly to the Garden. Go back to visit Castle later in the afternoon when the line is much shorter.

SAFE location, and GREAT buffet!
The BREAKFAST BUFFET was complete, great, and FREE! The hotel itself was within a 5 - 10 minute walking distance of the METRO, making it easy to travel within the city. The only thing I didn’t like was the tub/shower. It was at a much higher level than normal, with no handles or steps to get back to regular level. I was nervious I would slip. So be careful with that.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
Don’t bother renting a car in Paris. The metro is great and gets you pretty much everywhere within the city! Also, in the books, it reads Champs Elysees closes early and not open Sundays. Stores close late and open on weekends!
