Beyond all expectation
The location of the hotel was superb--right in the middle of everything, yet it afforded quiet and privacy when we wanted it. Our rooms were spacious, clean and well appointed. The hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. We did not use the hotel dining services simply because there was an incredible wealth of ethnic and Saxon cuisine restaurants only a stones throw from the hotel and each day of our week became an adventure with great food part of it. Our one and only regret, although it was a major regret, was that we could stay only seven nights. It is a regret that we do not intend to have repeated on our next trip to Dresden. We will definitely stay longer at the Steigenberger Hotel de Saxe. My paternal heritage is from Dresden. This was my first trip home. I am so proud to be a saxon.
If one goes in early fall, early October, one avoids the wet season (August) and the crowds of summer. Bring a warm sweater, though, for even then the wind can be biting. Outside evening dining is still pleasant.

Luxury in the old town of Dresden
If you are in Dresden for business or for leisure, you can take this hotel. It is located in the city center, just across the "Frauenkirche", the Elbe river and all attractions are in walking distance. It is not overpriced, the service is good, and if you spend a little beat more money, you can get a room with a beautiful view.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Take a room at the upper floors with a beautiful view.

Dresden Christmas
I booked the hotel based on the info on the website, my criteria being location and amenities. I was quite surprised to find that the hotel was right in the middle of the plaza of the New City. It was a beautiful location that put us right in the middle of everything. The hotel staff was wonderful, going out of their way to be helpful, even when we extended our stay from 2 to 4 days. A beautiful hotel in a beautiful city. I would recommend it to anyone.
