Go somewhere else
The king-size mattress was extra firm (very hard). Wish I had known this ahead of time and been given the option of having a normal mattress. Fridge in the room was not even plugged in, so keeping food in there was pointless. Towels were paper thin and the shower curtain smelled moldy. There was a hair dryer in the bathroom and the girl at the front desk was nice, but next time I’ll try one of the zillion other hotels in the area.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
The Shaker Village in Hancock turned out to be really interesting, and worth around three hours of exploration. There are live animals for the kids to look at, there was a free audio tour the day we went (Labor Day), and there are nature trails for walking or more intense hiking.

far better than expected
This hotel is much better than expected, particularly considering its price. The location is also quite good, the room is clean and service is kind. I recommend this hotel.

The Mount, Edith Wharton’s house is rich in history and a beautiful place to walk and grab a bite. Also Pleasant Valley Audobon sanctuary is probably the most beautiful Audobon sanctuary I’ve ever visited.
