Amazing large roof top pool, with lots of space to sunbath
I had already stayed 5 night at a nearby hotel, but the pool was small and there were building works going on, so I moved for my last night to the City River Hotel. I wanted somewhere to sunbath, with no shade that was close to the centre. This hotel was perfect, the rooftop pool is stunning, really big with loads of space (this is hard to find in Siem Reap). It had a lovley little bar that served pool snacks and some really nice raised areas to sit and eat. The hotel staff were really helpful and even let me have a late check out of 2pm. They booked a couple of tuk tuks for us at great prices to it saved us having to haggle outside. You are a 5 min walk along the river to the main central area, and also away from the main busiest road, so you feel a little more relaxed here.

It was OK, but...
I can’t really vouch for this hotel. First, I had made an original booking for two nights, and when I offered to pay them cash at the same rate for an extra night, they refused, preferring that I go thru expedia. I didn’t care, although the free internet in their lobby (nice touch for Cambodia) was quite slow. Then they told another guest that all shops were closed (to sell overpriced water bottles) while there was a supermarket open 5 minutes away. Considering the season and country, the room was pretty bug-free (no biters) and the breakfast was decent, but the staff’s attitude left something to be desired, especially considering the money I was spending in the country.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
If you have the time, I recommend visiting Tonle Sap lake; a bit touristy, but we felt it was worth it, especially on an (overpriced) private boat with a great guide like Shay (I don’t know the actual spelling)

Great for the price
For the amount we paid, we were really pleased with the City River Hotel. The staff were helpful, the room was clean, and everything was as it should be. The restaurant was fairly expensive, though. We’d stay there again.

Simple & Great location for the price
Service behind the counter is pretty good, as is around the rest of the hotel. Room and bathroom are simple and clean (with typical hard bed), but for the price you’re paying it’s very good value. A short and scenic walk from the city centre - well worth the stay for this reason.

Noise
Lovely garden providing a respite from busy and noisy streets. A nightclub across the river is very loud until 1 a.m. but running AC helps muffle noise. Great breakfast choices included in rate.
