Nickel & Dime
This hotel is good on the surface. The rooms are clean and the air conditioner works well for a European hotel. Our gripe was with the nickel and diming for extras. Pools towels cost 5 Euro pp per day. The private hotel beach costs too. Also, the pool is only open 9am to 7pm. Its a beautiful hotel and a nighttime swim would have been very nice.

Great family place
Very well set up for people traveling with kids with activities, facilities, etc. There are a lot of "extra" charges for things like beach towels (the bath towels are disappointingly thin, so youll want to pack your own. It is close to the beach, but the beach is relatively small and crowded in summer. The umbrellas and chairs that they rent to you for a premium (22 euro a day!) are crammed together and you have to reserve the front row units (which are the only ones that guarantee you can actually see the water from your chair) ahead of time, though I was never told HOW to do this. Fortunately there is a stretch of empty beach where you can pitch your own, which I recommend.
Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks
The hotel is very close to the public bus stop and I recommend you use this to get around the island rather than a taxi or rental car. The bus station in Portoferraio is right near the ferry station (helpful info center nearby can help), the ride is 30 minutes and very scenic. The bus from Portoferraio to Lacona runs every 2 hours, but other locations on the island have much more frequent service.
