The good thing is the location
The hotel is well located. You are very close (walking distance) but also a little apart from the hectic tourist part of the city, that for me was the big plus of the hotel, but when you read and see the hotels description you never know how old it is, I mean, 1940s, bug keychain on your hotel key (yes, they still use keys), two people elevator, a very old one. Also the hotel does not have a restaurant and the advertised room service is from the bar and is just sandwiches. They only have a small area for the breakfast service, which was nice and very well attended. The hotel is OK, but there are much better options in the city for the same rate. It will definitely not be my first option for my next trip to this beautiful city.
I recommend taking a short taxi ride to a part of the city called: "Doca de Santo Amaro". There you will find great scenery and they transformed old warehouses into restaurants, very upscale and refined. We wanted something cozy and decided to try "Don Pomodoro" and Italian restaurant and it was amazing!! (Be careful, with bread they will bring Procciutto di Parma but they will charge you 9 euros for it, dont think is complimentary, nothing is complimentary not even the water or the bread) but you will have many choices and they all look great! Dinner at this pier is a very nice way to finish your day.

Great Hotel near it all
The hotel was tucked in just off the main drag and a short walk to the sights. It was a great deal for the price and was a great nights sleep. Plus the breakfast was amazing!

An Excellent hotel with exceptional service and attention to detail
A stay at the Britania Hotel was a highlight in itself. This refurbished Art Deco hotel is located conveniently to central Lisbon and could not be faulted for service, friendliness and facilities. The rooms are a great size and the decor and ambiance are a perfect fit for this beautiful City. We would definitely recommend it for a stay and will return.
Traveler's tip on dining
The Seafood restaurants near the hotel - ask the staff who are more than happy to recommend one of the moderately priced places.

Very Friendly and Helpful Staff!
My friend and I stayed here during the off-season (January), so admittedly they werent very busy, but the staff was extremely attentive. Our room was great -- big and clean. The breakfast was delicious -- fresh-squeezed juices, delicious pastries, and a selection of hot dishes such as eggs and bacon. Complementary port was available in the room! Located in a quiet neighborhhod a block and a half from the metro, on which its a short trip to all kinds of sights. Highly recommended!

Oozing character and friendliness
I stayed at the Britannia for four nights in November 08, and had a great relaxing stay. The interior of the hotel is beautifully presented, and as advertised, is fit out in well put-together art deco styling. Room was comfortable and large. Perhaps the only downside (which is so minor that Im hesitant to mention it) is that the hotel is not particularly remarkable from the outside. However, the fact that I feel the need to mention some downside and that that is all I got to probably speaks for itself. The Britannia is well located, and indeed everywhere in the center of the city is in comfortable walking distance, with a number of restaurants within 5 minutes. For me, the most impressive thing about the hotel was the small things - the free internet, the super-friendly and helpful front-desk staff, the well-presented (and free) breakfast dining, and the tips from hotel staff on what to do whilst there. And the relatively cheap laundry! All in all, thoroughly recommend the Britannia.

Outstanding service
This hotel is not to be missed. Although inconspicuous on the exterior, the interior is lovely, a well-preserved 1940s building. The rooms are spacious, and the common areas are lovely. Most of all, the service is outstanding. I recommend the hotel for people of all ages. It is on a quiet street, one block from a main artery, and provides easy access to all of Lisbon.

A Great Place
We relied on the great reviews this hotel has received and they were well deserved. The room was very large with a bed that was big enough for an entire family. The staff were the most helpful we have ever encountered. Certainly far more pleasant than one of the large chains.

charming
The Hotel Britannia was actually one of the highlights of the trip. The person at the front desk remembered my name. Room service was extremely prompt and friendly. The hotel has history and character.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
As I was walking back to my hotel from the castle de sao jorge, I came across a plaza where couples were engaged in traditonal portugese dancing. The dancing was slow and intricate, and the dancers were not professionals - just very engaged amateurs. I was mesmerized for an hour.
