Hotel La Jolla At The Shores

Great value for the location

The hotel was newly remodled and was very clean and modern. The only complaint was that the air conditioning was hard to control, but other than that we would recommend this hotel.

Under restoration

Air conditioning was disabled and did not work the entire stay. Had to sleep with the windows open - no window screens. Room phone did not work and restoration was going on continuously during our stay.

Under Construction

This hotel was well-situated, nicely appointed, and UNDER CONSTRUCTION. Wish we had known that when we booked on Expedia. Otherwise, the bed was comfy, lighting was good, pool warm. Just dont stay near the construction or elevators as it’s noisy.

There is a great short hike nearby at Potters Canyon.

nice ocean view, clean rooms, and close (20 minutes walk) to the beach, shopping and dining district and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego.

Slightly Pricey

Pros: The reception desk was very friendly and accommodating to the need to change rooms. We ended up getting a 10th floor room with a great view. The room itself was comfortable and large. Cons: The hotel was under construction, so there were some open rooms and hanging wires on the 10th floor. Also, the elevator was difficult to call, because the custodian elevator and customer elevator used the same button, so we just ended up using the custodian elevator after the customer elevator wouldn’t come. For the price, I was expecting a bit more besides the room.

Future

This hotel has plans for renovations that should make it look much better. It has only a single restaurant, which is quite expensive, even for breakfast, but has a great view of the ocean

Would love to see it after the renovation!!

We got a great deal on the Hotel La Jolla at the Shores because they are renovating the hotel. We were there on the weekend and saw no sign of construction other than one side of the hotel was dark--probably where they are renovating. Our room was very comfortable and roomy. But the style was outdated, the room a bit worn, the TV was small and the walls were a bit thin---not noisy just thin. (So clearly they have not gotten to that side of the hotel yet.) The staff at the front desk were competent but not warm. Most of them seemed to be students from nearby UCSD. The location of the hotel is great. It was a 3 minute drive to downtown La Jolla and a nice walk to the beach in La Jolla Shores. But the best meal we had all weekend was at Clay’s, located on the top floor of the hotel. The food was delectable and the service divine. We would make a meal at Clay’s a priority if we return to La Jolla.

Nice hotel bad timing

Only complaint is they were renovating and it was very noisy. Believe I should have been notified rather than having to dig down into the small print to discover this.

We were pleasantly surprised

Although the hotel is a bit older, it was very well maintained, the staff was friendly and helpful and the view of the city and ocean was beautiful. I definitely recommend it. And they are remodeling soon so it will be even nicer.

Not Impressed

Everyone was very friendly and personable but unfortunately the hotel itself was just not what it was represented to be. The good thing is that it was very clean. Unfortunately everything is old (I think they are planning on renovating soon) the AC didn’t really work in our room, we could hear EVERY door on our floor and the floor above open and slam, we could hear every car come in and out of the driveway, every car door close, every car alarm arm, and that doesn’t even begin to cover the noise of the neiboring properties and miscellaneous construction happening. We could barely get to sleep so that was miserable. There is a beach and some cute little cafes within walking distance. I would not stay there again.

Over Priced

Not impressed with this hotel. The resturant service was lousy the food was mediocre and overpriced. They need to do some remodeling in the room’s. Parking should be included in the price of the hotel stay but they charge you $15 a day. On a good note when I did complain about the lousy resturant sevice I received at Clays the management did take off the parking bill

Okay Hotel

The hotel was in walking distance to the beach I could walk to the coffee shop early in the morning pick-up coffee and take a stroll along the beach before the kids awoke. On the down side the hotel was next to two very busy intersections and was a bit noisy early in the morning with traffic from the nearby street and maintenace crews working on the lawn.

A good choice when in San Diego

We had a very nice room and the rates were far and away better than ones recommended to us by others. We did not want any fancy trappings, but were very happpy with wi-fi availablility, convenience store within a 5 minutes walk and family-friendly services within a 10 minutes drive.

Wish I Was Still There

After reading some of the reviews I was nervous about the trip I had already pre-paid. I was pleasantly surprised upon arrival! Although located on a busy intersection the hotel itself is very quiet. The size of the hotel makes it very comfortable and access from the 9th floor to the parking lot takes no time at all! I would recommend the 9th floor for the view, but with the location we spent very little time in the hotel - too much to do! The room itself was clean, and getting extra towels or pillows was no problem. The beds were hard and not very comfortable, but nothing ever really compares to your own bed. We traveled with our 12 year old son, and his favorite beach of the weekend was LaJolla Shores, which happens to be a 10minute walk from the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone! LaJolla is a great quiet place to stay and it’s close enough to Pacific and Mission beach when you are in the mood for a little more excitement! I wish I was still there!

Very Nice Hotel

I recently spent a week (mid July 2008) at the Hotel La Jolla At The Shores, while visiting Southern California and I must say that I was extremely impressed with the Hotel Grounds, Housekeeping, and confort. I would most definitly recommend this Hotel to Anyone. It has it all... Great location, Top notch service, Modest price, Very well maintained, and friendly staff. (Stress - A supurb housekeeping staff)

Awesome Experience

We stayed at Hotel La Jolla from July 8-15. This place is a hidden gem. The staff was very friendly, helpful and always available. We couldn’t ask for more! The cleaning staff was always cleaning!! Our room was on the 10th floor with an ocean view. The room was very nice, clean and the bed was very comfortable. One thing we really enjoyed was the hotel shuttle. They will take you anywhere within a 5 mile radius of the hotel. The ocean is a close enough to walk to, and the pool at the hotel is nice if you don’t feel like going to the ocean everyday. Another gem at this hotel is Clay’s on the 11th floor. They offer a wonderful happy hour everyday from 4-7 with 50% off appetizers. We made a meal off of this deal! We will go back and stay at the Hotel La Jolla again. They are going to be remodeling the hotel. The pictures of what to come are stunning. They already started adding new machines to the fitness room while we were there. Can’t wait to see the final outcome! This was just an awesome experience!

Clean room and great view

The room was exceptionally clean and the view was fantasic. The hotel staff was helpful but didn’t go the extra mile when asked for restaurant recommendations.

very nice

This hotel is the place with it all. The view is superb. The room was very clean and comfortable. The starbucks is on your front porch, and fine dining is on the top floor. (very tasty) Now the bad part. Their going to take perfection and make it better. They are scheduled to remodel the rooms this fall. I saw the mock up pictures while I was there and all I can say is WOW!!

Eat,Eat,Eat. All the food in the area is wonderful. I haven’t had a bad meal in the whole place yet and this is one of my favorite vacation destinations

Great Location

Close to everything in La Jolla. Only complaint is noise from nearby busy streets. If the doors are shut, you cannot hear it but with the balcony, it is nice to have the doors open. Free Internet is great.

Actually it’s Clay’s La Jolla Hotel now...

Clay’s La Jolla Hotel at the Shores was an excellent stay for us. We enjoyed the room and view, and the peace and quiet from being just a short walk farther from the other beach bums. Also, the Lounge upstairs was great,too. We enjoyed the bar lounge, restaurant, food, and view from atop the hotel... cannot find a thing to complain about, it was enjoyable!

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Very well located off Interstate 5, and back away from the hustle of Downtown La Jolla. Very easy access, good parking and conveniences across the parking lot for Gas, food, and of course, Starbucks!

Great place in La Jolla

The hotel was beautiful, especially the ocean front view of the sunset. The room was great. The one complaint was the pool, where it was too breezy and thus not really useable.

Don’t pay for parking

We enjoyed our anniversary trip within walking distance to the beach and close by La Jolla Cove. When I noticed that it would cost an additional $50 at $10/night for parking, I called the hotel before we arrived and was told that there was no option in the residential area. The San Diego police told me that as long as the car was moved every 3 days parking was legal. We parked around the corner and saved $50.
