Chez nous
We couldnt have been happier with our 6 nights at the Marmara Manhattan. Our one bedroom suite on the 8th floor looked out over a gorgeous skyline and we were surrounded by restaurants, mini-marts and bus-stops. The Guggenheim was a 10 minute walk and nowhere in Manhattan felt further than a half-hour bus or taxi ride. The apartment itself was comfortable, well-equipped, full of storage space, and surprisingly roomy. The kitchen was full-size, the bed heavenly, and the staff friendly, eager to please and ready to sort out any minor niggles at the drop of a hat. A wonderful, relaxed atmosphere based on comfort and efficiency. We have stayed in smarter and much more expensive hotels in New York, but the Marmara is the one were eager to return to. Chapeau!
Two highlights of the trip were two tours - one a cycle tour of Central Park and South Harlem, the other a food tour of Brooklyn. Both were fantastic and allowed us to experience New York from the inside and to see it in an altogether different way.

Very comfortable uptown hotel with a different feel
Nice, bright, roomy suite with a full kitchen and an impressive view looking South over Manhattan. Bathroom was a little cramped, furniture a bit IKEA-ish, but the dining area and breakfast bar and the large refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, plates and flatware made New York take-out a pleasure to take out -- especially since the weather was monsoon-like during our stay. Our room didnt have a balcony (some do), but we probably wouldnt have used it anyway. Ive already recommended it -- and will continue to do so. Well be back.

Roomy apartment-like space upper East Side
Nice find. Convenient to subway lines. All amenities were nice -- nothing spectacular but everything was at least at level of a 3 star hotel.
Third Street -- just a block away-- has great and varied restaurants.
