Hotel Melia Berlin
The Melia was a good choice as it is very comfortable and exceptionally well located. We stayed on Level 1 which I would reccomend as the service was wonderful with a private restaurant right on our floor which served a beautifully prepared and diverse complimentary breakfast, coffee and pastries in the afternoon and a cocktail hour in the evening. The food was very good and beautifully presented. After long days of sightseeing, it was a lovely place to rest and regroup without having to be carrying coats, bags etc. and the view from the seventh floor toward the River Spree was charming. The staff on this level were personable and helpful and there was a computer in the reception area that we were able to access. There is also a restaurant and tapas bar on the street level and several good restaurants just steps from the hotel. We would definitely stay here again and have stayed at this hotel chain in the Dominican Republic which was also excellent.
Pergamon Museum particularly the Pergamon Altar, Gates of Ishtar and Market Gates on the reverse side of the Ishtar gates; Brandenburg Gate after dark and Unter den Linden the shopping boulevard; Check Point Charlie and the double row of cobblestones that indicate the outline of where the Wall stood which meanders throughout the city; Gendarmenmarkt, a lovely square - dont miss Fassbenders amazing chocolate shop which has a little restaurant where you can have the best hot chocolate; Gemaldergaleries room full of Rembrandts;Potsdamer Platz with all new glass and glitz buildings and a remnant of the Wall as you approach from the lovely Tiergarten.
