Hotel is great, but the location is not
I went for short weekend in November by myself, and for what it was, I had a fantastic time. The rooms are very comfortable, albeit a bit small. The decor is very Mediterranean: light wood, tiled floors, soft pastels. The beds consist of mattresses on wooden platforms, which worked fine for me. The bathrooms are likewise small, but clean and usable. Be warned: you cant flush toilet paper (the hotel provides bags) and you cant drink the water. A big plus: each room comes with a balcony. The neighborhood around the hotel is very different. Whereas the hotel is clean and a bit more colorful than the monochrome sandstone, the surrounding buildings are older and out of shape. Also, its a 5 to 10 minute walk to the sea and the town center of Bugibba. Overall, though, I had a wonderful experience at this hotel. I would recommend it only to those who are okay with walking moderate distances. If I visited Qawra again, I would probably stay at the Sunflower. Top three things I would recommend doing: 1. Walk the streets of Valletta. There are plenty of tiny alley ways and narrow staircases to snap up on your cameras. The city also feels very Italian and at the same time very North African. 2. Take the 627 bus (or a similar route) from Sliema to Bugibba/Golden Bay. You get great views of the ocean and see many of the towns, including, 3. St. Julians. I definitely recommend having dinner or enjoying an evening in the town of St. Julians.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Things to watch out for: -The mean age of people I saw was somewhere around 45 or 50. I was a solo traveller and am young, so I felt a bit out of place. -The buses are cheap and simple, but are a little tricky when it comes to finding stops. Make sure you know what buses you need and where before you get on. -The island is very British, and that includes the food. The hotel restaurant is decent, but you might ask the concierge for a better place to eat.
