Not for Spring Breakers.
If you want a place to go and do nothing but relax then this is the place for you. The staff is excellent and not at all pushing. The hotel itself is beautiful and designed/styled in a way that makes you want to just lay back. The rooftop pool is a nice touch and gives a wonderful view of the ocean. The food is very good but not a homerun and I would have liked for some more local dishes. the beach does get a little crowded but once you spend time at the pool you wont want to be on the beach anymore. I would go again
Traveler's tip on local attractions
Visit the plaza which is in walking distance from the hotel for less expensive drinks and food. DO NOT GO FISHING (at least not with company that picks you up at the hotels beach)... we did, spent 3hr on the ocean caught nothing and were later told the area is not good for fishing.

Great hotel
Excellent hotel, very charming and beautiful, great for couples, the service was great and the rooms were top of the line.
Traveler's tip on nightlife
For bars and restaurants you can go to Sosua or Cabarete, a 20 minute drive from the hotel.

Best Hotel in Puerto Plata bar none!
Casa Colonial is by far the best hotel I have stayed at in the Dominican Republic, this includes; Punta Cana, Cabarete, Santo Domingo and Santiago. The room was immaculate and very well appointed. The food was amazing and served with professionalism. This is not a hotel for those looking for "all inclusive" or a party atmosphere. This is a hotel for anyone looking to get away and relax with a loved one.
