Very cheap... but separate bathroom and shower room
Very cheap. If you travel alone, and you just sleep in the hotel, it is fine. But, it has separate bathrooms and shower rooms. Very NOT inconvient. But, one night may be fine.

Great location for smart travelers
The hotel Occidental was a great value for the price, with all you would expect from this star rating: price, cleanliness, breakfast... shared bathroom is not always comfortable but in this hotel it was extremely clean and right across the rooms in the hall. The hotel had some great pluses: friendly staff, 10 minutes walk to downtown and best of all free bikes with locks and helmets, which is the best way to enjoy San Diego given the scale of the city.

Good deal if you don’t need a large room
Well-maintained and great location. Limited on-site parking, though street parking is available (bring quarters). Be prepared for Euro-style (small) rooms.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
Balboa Park and Hillcrest are nearby; there’s also public transit. Park your car and forget it, or don’t rent one, if possible.
