Deferred maintenance champ.
We stayed in the Standard room. The smell was moldy and stale, perhaps because the bathrooms lack ventilation. Furnishings were worn and in bad repair. We did not stay for the nights we prepaid - just could not. On the positive, the staff was friendly; the morning breakfast was good - coffee was excellent.
Ask to see menus at restaurants before you decide to dine there. At open bars around the town squares, do not pay with US Dollars - they will not exchange at the going rate but will discount deeply - pay with credit card, even if you have to pay after every round.

The best hotel in Cartagena by far
I stayed during halloween weekend. All the employees were provided with costumes. It says alot about management... and a great down home feeling.. combined with excellent accomodations and service. The entire hotel chain is 5 star.

Nice hotel outside old city walls
Enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was clean and well run. Right across from the beach. It would have been nicer to stay inside the old city walls, but this was a great value and cheap taxi ride to the old city.
