great little hotel in central but quiet location with outstanding staff and restaurant

other than the small bathroom with the tiny shower (no opportunity to shave your legs) and the monotony of the continental breakfast this was a fantastic hotel with superb staff - especially the ladies on the front desk - in a great location attached to a fabulous restaurant. i hope to stay there on my next trip to Iceland. i would highly recommend the special lobster menu if it’s still available - just remind yourself that food eaten in Iceland contains no calories or cholesterol.

Great location and service.

Hotel Odinsve is within walking distance to everything in Old Town Reykjavik and is on a quiet residential street. We were in one of the deluxe rooms (4th floor) and enjoyed our balcony view of the city/harbor every day. The staff were very knowledgeable about the local shops, food stores, apothecary, and dining options and were very accommodating when we arrived well before the 2 PM check in. The room was immaculate and the bedding very comfortable. When we return to Reykjavik, we will definitely return to Odinsve!

Take the elevator to the clock tower at Halgrimmskjrka. The 360 degree view of the city is well worth the time.

Great, clean hotel. Hotel staff were excellent - very helpful and nice. Simple hotel, but very practical and a fun location in Reykjavik.

Great hotel, great location

Spent 3 nights here and would go back in an instant. I was upgraded to a suite, which was literally a suite with separate sitting room. Furnishings were new and immaculate. Staff incredibly friendly and helpful for arranging trips, confirming flights, etc. Room spotlessly cleaned very day. Location is best of all - in a pleasant residential area but 2 minutes from main cathedral and 5-10 mins walk to everything. Quiet at night (no drunken club crowds) but convenient for sightseeing. Do the Golden Circle tour, it’s good. I found the Reyjavik Excursions city tour disappointing, first hour was driving around the suburbs. Latter part of tour better.

Traveler's tip on dining

Hotel restaurant was pricey, as all are there, but excellent (I ate there twice). Liked Caruso (Italian food) a few blocks from hotel - cute place. Supermarkets close by and bookstore cafe just down the street. in fact lots of small cafes and pizza places close to the hotel. Breakfast at the hotel was filling - typical Scandinavian smorgasbord.

Can’t wait to go back

The hotel was quiet, clean, close to everything and the staff was superb. I arrived quite late the first night and had not book any activities for the next day. The woman at reception helped me pick and book a fantastic tour, offered to help me pack a lunch (as she would be on shift still when I would be leaving for the tour and neither of us were sure if a lunch stop would be included) and generally made me feel very welcome (which was really great as I was a woman travelling alone without too much of a plan). The room was small and had only a single bed, small desk armoire and the TV was on a mini-frige. Regardless, the bed was super comfy. The breakfast was delicious (I highly recommend the Icelandic yogurt.) I would certainly recommend and stay at Hotel Odinsve again.

Traveler's tip on dining

If you are looking for a delicious, fresh & creative seafood meal, go to The Seafood Cellar. The hotel & the tourist agent said it was the best in tow & it did not disappoint. The Lobster "Pick Me Up" appetizer is a must have. If you can’t decide which entree to to select, get the Fantastic 4, a dish comprised of miniature versions of the 4 most popular fish entrees. Sadly, I didn’t have any room for dessert. If I was thinking, I would have taken something to-go.

Would stay there again in heartbeat

Staff was wonderful in helping plan dinners and excursions. Breakfasts were great! Very nice location. Accessible to everything but on a nice quiet street.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Definitely go on a super jeep tour. Whale watching was not that great.

Great overall experience

The hotel is a few blocks off the main street so its quiet and central, which is a good find because the area can be noisy on weekend nights. Nice staff, rooms, parking close by, etc. Food in the restaurant (except the free breakfast which is average) is suprisingly good. We actually ate there twice in a 1 week stay. It’s not a US equivalent 4 star, but it is nice, clean, charming and we would stay there again.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Blue Lagoon is a pretty heavy tourist attraction, but if you go when it isn’t too crowded (during the week) its very cool.

Faboulous Hotel

Great rooms and a great location. We were upgraded to a 2 level room without even asking. We had a room at the end of the hall, so it was very quiet (though we overheard other guests complaining at breakfast about their neighbors). The staff was friendly and helpful, and had good suggestions for restaurants. This hotel was close enough to the downtown restaurants and bars (2-5 minute walk), but far enough away so that the noise didn’t keep us awake. Would highly recommend staying here.

Clean, comfortable and quiet

The hotel is situated between a few blocks from the main street - Laugavegur - and a few blocks below the main church. It’s about a 15 minute walk to Old Town and the pond. Depending on where you want to stay, I find the location of Odinsve to be closer to the main street/shopping district than Old Town with the hipper restaurants, dance clubs and pubs. It’s nice that the hotel is located on a quiet square away from the main street, but close enough that you don’t feel like you are missing out. The room I stayed in, a single, is slightly bigger than a large closet. However, the room is incredibly clean (I had no problem walking barefoot on the floor!) The lobby is nice, but not necessarily a comfortable place to "hang out", relax or stay for a cocktail after walking around the city all day. The available computer in the lobby is also a plus, but incredibly slow (think dial-up.) The complimentary breakfast was standard (cereals, muslix, lox, herring, eggs, cheese, fresh breads), but made with fresh ingredients. The staff was incredibly helpful and very friendly, but then again they’re Icelanders and everyone is that way! Overall, it was a pleasant hotel and I think if you want to spend a little extra, but not necessarily extravagant, this is a hotel you won’t regret spending on.

Would stay again

We spent 5 night in the hotel and were very satisfied with the service provided. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were simple but tasty (their bread was just super soft and fresh).

Traveler's tip on dining

There are several restaurants in Reykjavik worth mentioning: vid trojnina, three frenchmen and the hereford steakhouse.

Great Euro-Feel Hotel

We had the corner unit, and a great view of the intersection and shops. The room was very clean and modern. Remember the sulfer-smelling water is suppose to be that way ;-)

Traveler's tip

We went to Iceland so I could dive the SILFRA RIFT, and to see the BLUE LAGOON. Both were amazing and highly recommeded!

ABSOLUTLELY FANTASTIC HOTEL

This is the second time we have stayed at the Odinsve. An excellent hotel. Clean. Good personnel. Buffet breakfast with a wide choice of foods. Staff good in setting up tours. Close to downtown but far enough away to be in a quiet area. Only downside is the cost is high as is all of Iceland. But I still highly recommend this hotel as I think all others will cost the same.

The Perfect Place to Stay!

The Odinsve is located within walking distance to shops and restaurants, but far enough away from the noise of late night partying. Our room was spacious (we were upgraded to a suite with stairs leading to a sitting room in the attic space above)and the staff was always helpful and gracious. A world-renown restaurant is located in the Odinsve, however we did not have the opportunity to dine there. We were fortunate to have chosen this hotel by chance!

a real charm

my wife and I had a wonderful time in Iceland and Odinsve was a great choice. The accommodations were wonderful. Being from the US we’re used to bigger rooms but this was quite charming and comfortable. I can’t say enough about the hotel manager and staff. They were always went out of their way to help with any request. The food and service of their Restaurant Ziggi Hall were outstanding. I wish I was still there.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

plan ahead. Read about Iceland and plan an itinerary but don’t pack it in too much. The Golden Circle to the southand ring road to the north are areas with plenty to see. Eating out is EXPENSIVE. Well, almost everything is expensive but you can help by buying some food items in grocery stores. Expect any kind of weather even in summer. Our August trip went from T shirts to fully bundled with layers, coats, hats, and gloves.

Very convenient location to downtown Reykjavik. The rooms were extremely clean and staff very friendly. The breakfast (included) was great - boiled eggs, cereals, toast, yogurt, fresh fruit, etc.

Really enjoyed our stay.

The front desk staff was terrific-answered all questions, booked excursions, held our luggage etc. We had a double deluxe room--closer in size to American expectations than the reqular rooms-- with a terrace, good lighting & window shades, super comfortable bed. The included breakfast was nicely done and far exceded the usual ’continental’ bkfst fare. We really enjoyed our stay.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Restaurant food and drink in Iceland is very expensive. We found a supermarket towards the end of the main shopping street and also a liquor store. Having a bit of cheese, crackers and sweets available for lunch or a snack saved us quite a bit of money. Dine out food was very good.
