Fair price

Halkova Hotel offers a fair price for its clean, confrtable and huge rooms. The rooms are old and have no frigobar. However it offers breakfast and its only 3 blocks (5 minutos walk) from the main Shopping Avenue and 25 minutes walk from the historic city center.

could not recommend

The accommodations were substandard. The mattresses were shot-no top sheets, thin pillows, twin beds are like futons. People with limited mobility should not stay here--impossible to avoid stairs. The television is 13inches. Water damage above the shower, thin towels, no ice maker. No air conditioning--necessary to leave windows open. Unfortunately, car and people noise makes sleep difficult. Our neighbors alarm woke us--the walls are not sound proof! The hotel is located very close to major attractions--an easy walk. However, we were uncomfortable on our street at night. The hotel area is run down. While some buildings are being gutted, many have broken windows and graffiti. A nearby grocery is obviously a preferred spot to buy big bottles of hard liquor. A large group of young people, sharing bottles, were between us and the hotel--scary. Recommend being inside the hotel before dark. Hotel Policy--you must leave the key each time you go out. To re-enter, you buzz the receptionist.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Be sure to negotiate your taxi fee before you make arrangements. Our first taxi service cost 50 euros for a 10 minute drive. There is no recourse in these situations.

Hotel bargain in good location

My only complaint would be the level of noise that we experienced - not during the evening, but inevitably early in the morning because there are some works being done on buildings next door and right across the street. we had to sleep with our windows open at nite because they couldn’t switch off the radiators. it was february but prague was unseasonably warm (like 60 degrees during the day) and so the room was like a sauna every time we came in. we complained about it a couple of times and they kepts saying they’d fix it, but never did. but aside from that small hiccup, a really terrific place to stay - good breakfast, friendly staff, internet connection and CHEAP. really can’t go wrong.

Traveler's tip on dining

there’s a brilliant restaurant just up the road from the hotel called Legenda. had all sorts of options and cheap beer. i am told that if you ever have to pay more than 30 crowns (a little over a euro) for a beer in prague, then you’re in a tourist trap. this place was definitely not one

nice place

nice location, clean, very good breakfast. hard to park at (for checking-in). park at another hotel not too far away (5 min). sometimes noisy (constuction, a couple questionable bars down the street). great service. street cars/metro nearby.

Traveler's tip

nice italian/pizza place a few minutes away around the corner (on the way to Wenceslas square, 1st turn right). nice little ice cream place (take 1st left instead of 1st right, just past church)
