Mandarin Oriental Manila

I am a frequent traveler and looked forward to my first stay in a hotel of the chain. I got a fairly low rate on Expedia and booked the MO for 2 nights. I was very disappointed with the property, service was good but slow. I called for laundry service then shoe shine. The person who came to pick up my shoes after 30 minutes would not take the laundry and I have to wait another 30 minutes and make a couple more calls before someone finally showed up. The hotel is in need of a major renovation. Stained carpets, worn out draperies and quite far from what one would expect from a 5-star property. It is not bad but it is not good and personally I will not stay there again.

A welcome at the Mandarin Oriental Club

You’ll enjoy the warm hospitality when you check in the Mandarin Oriental almost before you enter the stark but handsomely appointed lobby. However, if you get a chance to stay at the Executive Floor, you will feel very comfortable and pampered at the Club Lounge. It offers a cozy setting and a luscious view of the Makati skyline. You’ll enjoy complimentary afternoon appetizers and light breakfast fare. The best is the staff concern about your comfort and genuine open friendliness. You will feel welcomed and at home during your stay in Manila.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Bring your laptop since all wi-fi connections are complimentary at the Executive Floors

Not Impressed

The hotal was very dark in color, and presented a very somber mood, The prices at the reasruant were extremely high compared to out food facilites, and service presentation was poor. The area is very busy with car traffic, and you can hear this upto 7 floor. this is uncomfortable for business traveler and those not familar withthe area I would suggest all forgien travel stay above 9th floor

Will stay again!

I origionally planned to stay for two days, but had to quickly catch a flight out the afternoon of the second day. I was in an extreme rush, and the front desk staff had me checked out, and in an airport cab in minutes. I will be terurning to Manila one week every month and will definitly stay at the Mandarin again.

Truly superior service

Although the Mandarin Oriental is a little long in the tooth and needs refurbishment, I will definitely stay there next time I’m in Manila. The staff are all so genuinely warm and attentive, friendly yet still perfectly professional. Not a bad location, great restaurants and clubs and entertainment too.

Place to stay in Makati, Manila

Located near the business district of Makati. 15 munites drive to a new & large Ayala Center shopping mall. Nice and friendly services.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Plan ahead of time if you wish to use a metered taxi, hotel taxis can be expensive. Also be aware of heavy traffics in mornings & evenings if you are traveling in a car. It can take twice or even thee times longer than expected travel time.

missing things

When I got to the room there was a letter saying the health club was closed for remodling. That was one of the reasons I booked there. Also it was very very difficult to get a cab. They want you to take the hotel car at 4x the price or more and were almost rude when finding out you wanted to take a cab. And the wait to get one was unneccesarly long

Disappointed

I thought the name meant something but in Manila it really didn’t. The hotel is in need of a massive renovation and there are much nicer places to stay then here. The cigar and scotch bar Kiplings was nice but that is about it. I have never slept on a harder mattress in my life!

Will Stay Again

Overall, I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Manila. Although the shopping is a little far, the cabs are cheap and it only takes a few minutes.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

All in all, a good location to access all the sites in the area.

Very nice hotel & good service

Room was nice and comfortable, has adequate cabinet storage, bathroom was also very nice and shiny clean which is important to me. Hotel staff was always ready to be of service anytime. I would stay there again and readily recommend it to anyone.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Take a metered taxi to Glorietta mall (which cost little) and eat there! You can also take a leisurely 15-minute walk to the mall.

Pretty Good

This is a good place to stay not far from the airport. The staff is very helpful; however, when we stayed they were renovating the main breakfast restaurant, and the service and environment of the new breakfast venue was not very good at all.

Very nice place to stay

I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights and it was fantastic. The ENTIRE staff was friendly and helpful. Very secure hotel and within walking distance to both large shopping malls. DON’T use this hotels taxi/shuttle service because it is very expensive. Just use the local taxis and you will save a great deal of money.

My choice in Manila

I’ve decided for the price and satisfaction, I will choose the Mandarin oriental anytime I travel to the Philipines, which is quite often. The food is fantastic and room service is not that expensive, considering the quality and quantity of food delivered to your door. The buffet down stairs is a little pricey though. The staff is courteous and seem genuinely freindly. The Glorietta Mall is a little too far to walk, unless you don’t mind the exercise, but a cab is only a couple of dollars. There is a couple decent bars nearby and Flamingo’s has the most beautiful women out of any of them.

Traveler's tip on dining

Although the buffet is too expensive, room service is not. Glorietta Mall has any resturant you can think of and if yo’re really cheap, there are the local eateries just down the road.

Nice Hotel

This is a nice hotel and the staff always were freindly, helpful, and courteous. It is kind of located in a spot that is far enough away from the malls that you might want to catch a cab. Makati nightlife is a couple blocks away.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Flamingo’s is the place to go if you are looking for a date.

They know your name

I’ve stayed at quite a few top hotels, this was the first time that even staff I had not yet met or noticed called me by my name. Overall, excellent service and facilities, great room. My one complaint was when I left. The hotel maintains a fleet of taxis, which are more expensive than the other cabs in Manila. They do this for security reasons, and it’s a nice option. But I specifically requested a metered taxi instead, and didn’t realize until we were halfway to the airport that it was a hotel taxi.

Very Nice Hotel

Stayed at this Hotel end of Sept 2008. It had a nice size outdor pool, the weather was good, the service was good. Overall I had great stay. Went to a concert at the hotel form a local singer "Sharon". Did not venture around the area all that much.

Very Friendly

The hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful (almost to a fault). The buffet in the restaurant was very good but a little pricy compared to restuarants located outside the hotel. The hotel was a little dark and worn, but my room was very clean and the attentive staff overcame any of those issues. I stayed for 14 days by the way.

Traveler's tip on dining

Go to the greenbelt where there is an abundant choice of restaurants to choose from. This is like any other US mall area but much larger and more variety.

Unbelievable service

Expedia says that this is a 4-1/2 star hotel. But the service and attention to detail is by far above many 5 star hotels. Owing in part to the local culture of hospitality, the staff was extra friendly and the smiles and small elevator chats were not artificial. The attached Martini bar is pretty good too. The outside of the hotel is modern. The rooms have new fixtures and everything is super super clean.

Traveler's tip for business travelers

Its just a 5 minute walk from the Shangri La. And 10 minutes walk from the shopping malls.

Great Service & Great Location

Very nice location and service was as expected for a four star Hotel. We did have a couple concerns: The bed was a bit on the hard side and the toilet kept plugging up and made a very loud rattling noise when flushed. Food at the Hotel was almost twice the cost of food available just a block away. Lessons learned we would still recommend this Hotel.

Traveler's tip on dining

Lots of Dinning selections in the area don’t eat at the Hotel’s unless you want to spend lots of money.

Hotel staff gives exellent service.

Hotel excels in service. Bathrooms need updating...also needs a lobby for people to wait instead of going to the bar. Location is good for business people and is an easy access to everywhere. Would highy recommend this hotel to everyone and price is right, too...affordable even for people on a budget.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Stay there for good comfort and relaxing atmosphere. Worth the price.
