All But the Blankets and Coffee

Crystal Palace is overall quite amazing... great price and near-impeccable location! Located just off a main street, the hotel is rather quiet and provides wonderfully easy walking access to "New Town" and Wenceslas Square, not to mention a fabulous Irish Pub which is great place to wind down after a day of touring the city. I chose the upgraded room which provided a double bed and adequate space to chill out. Everything was super clean and staff was incredibly friendly as well as speaking English wonderfully. The three reasons that keep me from giving it top rates are the blankets/comforters which are far too short (I’m 5’11"), the coffee at breakfast had an odd taste and seemed a bit chalky, and the shower has no curtain so forget a traditional shower. Aside from that, this place should be a no-brainer; Irish Pub, Starbucks, Trams and Subway all within a 10 to 15 min walk away! I would recommend the hotel staff take some walking trips of the local area themselves... they had no idea the Irish Pub was down the street nor that there was a Hard Rock Cafe in the city (nearby no less).

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Many of the local bars/clubs have no identity; all the music tends to be more "pop" and seem to be going for some sort of either posh or edgey R&B/Hip Hop or Jazz club feel. If you want underground, Goth, Industrial or Techno it will not be easy to find.

Great

Friendly and helpful hotel staff speak good English. Very clean facility with small bar and nice sauna. Great breakfast buffet. Rooms with two twin beds are available. Like most European hotels, no wash cloths (so bring your own if you use one). Only other inconvenience is that facial tissues (Puffs, Kleenex, etc.) were not provided. Great proximity to good Czech and international cuisine restaurants. Relatively short walk to a park, the river, Wenceslas Square and Old Town Square.

Extremely Happy!

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel very much. It was clean, in a good location, quiet, there was a nice variety of food on the breakfast buffet, and the employees were all very helpful and could speak English. We could walk everywhere from here. You won’t be sorry if you stay here.

Traveler's tip on dining

All the retaurants in the area were great and the people very friendly. There was only one exception. Avoid Svejk Restaurant or Hostinec U Kalicha. It looked great and was recommended but the food was dry, people unfriendly, and the trout unedible.
