Worst 4-Star Hotel Ever.
The Hudson Hotel is closer to a hostel than a 4-star hotel. Our room was very small and dark, with the gloomy decor adding to the claustrophobic feeling. The room had a strong musty odor and was extremely loud from the street noise, despite being on the top floor. Because of the noise, we ended up switching rooms to the back of the building. This second room was larger, but was unbelievably hot. Despite the cool 60 degree weather outside, our room was steaming hot with no ventilation. The Hudson is a hotel/bar/club, so the sound of music & crowds of people reaches even the top floor. There is no parking lot, valet service, help with bags/transportation, or any extra amenities, making it extremely inconvenient for travelers. So basically, the hotel does not actually cater to travelers and focuses much more so on the bar & club. The location is the one benefit, since the hotel is within Edinburgh New Town. However, Edinburgh is such a walkable city that there are plenty of hotels in good locations. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable, clean, and peaceful environment!

great location, VERY SMALL rooms, no concierge
I am not a complainer, but I was quite disappointed with this hotel. The bar was very cool and trendy looking but the rest of the hotel felt rather like an upscale hostel. The rooms were extremely small.
Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay
If you plan on spending most of your time in the Old Town, this is probably not the hotel for you. It is however adjacent to the best streets in the new part of town, and not too far from the old town, probably a 10 - 15 minute walk.

Good Location - Average amenities
While the location is very good, I am not sure I would describe this hotel as 4 star. The hotel is housed in an old stone building, and presents itself nicely on the outside. The rooms are small, confortable, but had a musty smell - no air conditioning. We visited during a heat wave. The bathrooms are beautiful, must have very recently been remodeled. Elevator barely fits 2 with bags and hallways are very dark and gloomy. Restaurant/bar is one of the best in town and draws a big afterwork crowd. As I mentioned, I dont think the location can be beat right off Princes Street.
