Not good

While the grounds were nice, there was a bird dropping(we hope) on the counter when we arrived. The office was closed at 5:30pm when we arrived so we could not tell anyone. The condo, we later learned, was in forelosure which explained the couch pillows that had stuffing coming out, the stained carpet that only had padding in some places, the tv that worked part of the time, and the dirty stains next to the floor boards. I am really not that picky, but this was just too sub standard for me. I purchased my own cleaning liquid to do the cleaning I could to make it livable for our 3 day stay.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

The muleride to Kalaupapa and our time on that tour were the best part of our vacation. I will remember it forever. Molokai is full of the true Hawaiian culture. They have made special efforts not to make it commercialized. It is the real thing.

Room was rundown

Although the general area and condo common area’s were nice our room was rundown and the furniture was very dirty. The staff was there limited hours and we were not given a key to the pool area. No window treatments in bedroom so when the sun came up at 6:00 a.m. is was blazing in the bedroom. The owner of this unit should reduce the rate of this room until they are able to get it into shape. I would hope all the rooms are not like this. I would stay somewhere else.

Not very impressive

Very pricey for the quality of the condominium and service. The room was ill-maintained and not very comfortable at all. The kitchen had really old stuff and we didn’t feel like using any of the plates or utensils. I’d not recommend this place.

Look forward to returning for the mule ride and more peace and quiet.

Our particular unit had really fun decor and a great view. Enjoyed the common areas. Good location to town. Would definitely recommend to others.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Paddlers Inn Bar and Molokai Hotel. Great local music-loved the ladies playing ukeleles.

Don’t bother

If you would like to stay in a shabby old condo, this is the place for you! Although, Molokai does not have many options, so the pickin’s are slim.

3rd world mentality

Beautifully maintained grounds and great ocean views off the lanau but no AC just 2 ceiling fans which were not adequate for South facing condos. as it was quite warm (even in Jan.) in the afternoon and evening. There was a total lack of concern by the office about complaints of roaches, ants and no drapes on the bedroom windows. They have a 3rd world mentality.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

The farmers market on Saturday was nice. The groceries were quite expensive. Not too many places to eat so it was nice to have a full kitchen. Nice people on the island and relaxing atmosphere but not much to do.

Very Nice Grounds.....

This is a pretty old and established complex. The grounds are quite beautiful and very well maintained. The views are wonderful. However the water on this particular portion of the island is always murky.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Definitly take advantage of the fact that you are renting a fully equipped condo. There are very few restaurants here so if you like to cook, go to Friendly Market and stock up. We absolutely LOVE Molokai. Not much to do but RELAX!!!

Well worth the stay

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Night life is none existent, but do make it a point to visit the Molokai Bakery at 10PM for the most wonderful bread I have ever eaten, my favorite is cream cheese with strawberry! Enjoy

It all depends on what your idea of a vacation is!

Our room was a basic clean place to stay. There is no maid service at all.If you want clean towels or additional soap/shampoo,etc. you must catch the office when they are open. There was a strong charge to get maid service(over and above the rate of the room)There was a nice TV and CDplayer. The sofa/hideabed was fairly new. As a bed for our 17 year old son it left a bit to be desired comfort wise, but what hideabed doesn’t?The bed had a simple quilt on it that was nice. The bedding and mattress were very basic:only one pillow a piece, not crisp fresh sheets, mattress ok the first couple of nights, but by the end of the 5 night stay, our backs were feeling it.We wanted to get a taste of the real Hawaii and not the "developed Hawaii" that the other islands have become. So, this lived up to our expectations for the most part. Our family likes to explore the island so we tend not to spend much time in our hotel room.Cleanliness was the most important to us. We can live with everything else. The faucet on the bath tub would not shut off completely. We let the office know when we headed out for the day and it was fixed when we returned home. The grounds were impeccable. There is a putting green but the grass is too long so the ball will not roll.If you are looking for luxury this is not the place. We were expecting the basics and that is what we got.We were OK with out stay and to get to see an island that has not been destroyed by luxury developements was refreshing and beautiful.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Saturday morning farmers market and crafts was great in Kaunakakai.Cookhouse:very good food(BYOB).Paddles was good as well. While we were there they had just announced the closing of the Ranch developement and other businesses also owned by the same people(gas station, theatre, golf course,etc.)Soo...it sounds silly on such a small island, but if you like to explore, make sure you get gas at the central area of the island before you head out!

Wouldn’t go back

Bugs, shower leaked every time and had to wipe all the water running down the bathroom. The lanai - the floor and the furniture dirty, not inviting at all. No VCR/DVD player, no alarm clock, no air, sheets were old and worn.

Do Not Stay Here

The "hotel" is more of an apartment complex, complete with abandoned cars in the far parking lot. We ended up checking out of the Molokai Shores & getting a refund from Expedia (Expedia staff was very helpful & accommodating) because of the following issues: -1 towel to share between 2 ppl. for our entire stay -no maid service -urine stains & other unidentified spots on the toilet seat & bowl -ants in 1 of the beds -closet doors that were off the tracks & propped up in the closet itself -screen door that wouldn’t lock & was cut in places Overall, the room was dirty and looked like it hadn’t been properly cared for in years. The "hotel office staff" made their own hours (closing before posted times and not coming in on certain days) and were openly confrontational when asked for clarification on certain issues. The grounds of the complex were relatively nice, but you definitely got the impression you were staying in someone’s ratty apartment rather than a hotel or even a beach rental.

Beautiful Views

This was a nice unit and had a beautiful view. Since the units are individually owned, the condition of each will vary. The owners of our unit upgraded everything and really tried to make it nice. Be warned that there are children (along with their friends and relatives) from the full time residents who use the pool all the time so it is not quiet and peaceful if that is what you want.

Beautiful views

Clean condo with all the amenities-#A203. The owners have upgraded everything, not a luxury hotel but well worth the price. The view is to die for - facing the ocean. Wonderful, well maintained landscaping. The only negative is the local resident’s children in the pool and on the grounds all the time. If you want peace and quiet, this is not for you.

Layed back island, layed back hotel

If you check out the cost of Hawaii at Christmas you realize you’re going to get what you pay for.The Molokai Suites are nice, average, layed back units of different sizes and amenities (we had a 42" plasma tv!). They are clean but they are next to the ocean and in a rural setting. There are roosters, goats and ants. We had a mouse visit our place. Common sense dictates how things go.You nedd to be clean, also. It’s a beautiful, quiet island and our hotel fit in great!
