Absolutely Loved It
This was one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. It was clean, comfortable, the view was gorgeous, the spa was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the staff was extraordinary.

Sylish Hotel in great location
It was hard researching for Madeira because a lot of them got really good reviews (I focus on negative reviews, but even those werent that bad). Two things this one had that the others didnt: 1. Designed by famous architect. Brazilian Oscar Niemayer who designed many buldings including at least half of the Brazilian capital. His designs are older now and I was worried about the "dated" look and a shabby hotel. To the contrary, it seemed recently renovated and the new design enhances the original architecture with a trendy retro feel that still stays comfortable. A perfect 10 for Design and enough to convince me to book. 2. However, Location was a definite plus: Most of the hotels seemed in the same area and I wanted something walkable into town. This one was actually the closest. It was also at the top of a not-very-steep hill with great views from rooms, pool and rstaurants.
Traveler's tip on dining
Skip dining downtown altogether and go to one of the restaurants or hotels higer up for gorgeous views of Funchal and the water.
